I absolutely agree. As a child therapist who has seen and continues to see many male boys, teens and adults, I recognize that this pattern continues to show up this way and it is a shame.
In order to expect empathy from our young males we must start by directing our empathy toward them. Initiatives that create nurturing experiences for children will result in greater emotional intelligence, empathy, security and a general desire to turn toward, rather than away, in times of vulnerability. Young males need us to make room for their vulnerability so they don’t continue to deflect and defend against it. The females in our lives have been asking this for years as it leads to greater intimacy. Keep and eye for Jorge’s Therapy Farm, a therapeutic approach meant to nurture vulnerable children by creating a secure environment where they belong and contribute. Building meaning as they heal. Thank you.
