The look back with joy melts my heart.
Love.
Mavi has been skiing with me since he was an unruly pup.
The calm and gentle Mavi you know now used to be wild and fiercely strong and scared and full of fear aggression. To the point where I couldn't walk him down the street or take him into public.
This was very challenging. Many people said to give up on him. But I believed in him, in his heart, in his spirit.
I knew I would never give up on him. It wasn't even a question. When people suggested it, it sounded absurd.
I accepted early on that he would have to join me in the mountains and backcountry where he could be safe and free to be without being bombarded with triggers. And you know what, it worked.
He just needed unconditional love and time (a lot of time), consistency, and space to regain trust.
S l o w l y, he began to heal and trust in the world again.
He began to relax into his beingness. Able to feel joy and relax, knowing he is loved, accepted as is, and always held in safety.
I am so proud of him and his journey. Now, you would never suspect that he had an abusive start to life.
Healing is possible with the right environment, safety, acceptance, and love.
