Although Halloween accessories like costume contact lenses – "scary eyes" – might take your costume to the next level, they can put your eye health at risk.

Costume/cosmetic contact lenses can scratch your cornea, causing corneal abrasions and even ulcers, which can lead to vision loss. Eye infections are also a risk.

Make sure to wear only contact lenses prescribed and fitted by your optometrist.

Halloween makeup is one of the most popular ways to enhance the eyes, but it's important to proceed with caution.

Keep your eyes healthy and infection-free. Try new products on a small patch of skin, don’t share makeup products or brushes with others, and never forget to remove all eye makeup before going to bed.

Avoiding excessive glitter or flaky makeup around the eyes can lower your risk of irritating your eyes.
