Embrace the Chill ❄️💆‍♀️🌿

When work feels like it’s consuming every ounce of my focus, the screen starts blurring and I'm seeing double, struggling with excel spreadsheets or I'm not understanding the "ask" in an email, after reading it three times, I know it’s time for me to step outside. These are symptoms I deal with every day since returning to work after my concussion.

🌬️ ❄️ STEP OUTSIDE

👎 Not for an errand.
👎 Not for another commitment.
👍 Just to be.

There’s something about the crisp air hitting my face that forces me to be present. The way I suddenly notice my breath, the bite of the cold against my skin—suddenly, my mind shifts from deadlines and emails to the simple act of existing in the moment. My nervous system thanks me.

This isn’t just about getting fresh air. It’s about resetting. Letting my eyes rest from the strain of screens. Letting my mind quiet itself from the constant hum of productivity. Letting my body feel the world around me—cool air, steady ground, and maybe even the crunch of snow beneath my feet.

Mental health isn’t just about what happens in our heads. It’s about how we physically step away, disconnect, and allow ourselves to recalibrate. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, try this:

☁️ Step outside, even for five minutes.
👀 Focus on what’s around you—the sky, the trees, the sensation of your breath.
🧠 Give your brain permission to pause. (My favorite)

The work will be there when you get back. But you? You’ll return with clearer eyes, a steadier mind, and the energy to take it all on again.

Have you tried this? Let me know how stepping outside helps you reset. 🌬️💙

Are you a professional woman that has recently transitioned back into the workplace after experiencing a traumatic injury or loss? Let me share some of the challenges I faced and let me know if you have faced any of this?

🧠 After my Brain injury, I had to balance the desire to return to work and have a regular routine, with my need to continue my healing.

🏔️ I had to face the anxiety, fear and self-doubt along with my concerns about meeting job expectations and handling my previous workload. This added additional stress to my return-to-work process.

😭 I had been working through the grief of the injury and coming to terms and accepting the Cheryl 2.0 version of myself, knowing that this was my new reality, but I was unsure how the new version would be accepted and how I was going to be able to cope once I was back in the workplace. People often don’t recognize the grief that goes along with a life changing injury such as this. Believe me, it was and is, a thing.

💸 In top of that, I was dealing with the financial strain of being on 35% of my income for the year and a half that I was off work. I had some catching up to do, especially with the high cost of vision therapy and other supports I was paying for every week.

Now. let me share some strategies that I used, (and continue to use), and teach other professional women dealing with their return to the workplace:

☑️ ⏳ One of the keys was having open communication with my boss and peers about my readiness and setting expectations along with regular check-ins to monitor my progress. Being able to start back on a gradual re-entry with reduced hours was also very helpful in order to monitor and measure my progress.

☑️💡 I leveraged available resources, including occupational health services, counseling, and peer support groups, to address both emotional and practical challenges.

☑️🏊‍♀️ I incorporated practices such as mindfulness, regular exercise, and adequate rest to manage stress and promote overall well-being during the transition.

💎 Embarking on the journey back to work after a traumatic event is deeply personal and varies for each individual. By acknowledging the challenges and proactively implementing supportive strategies, women can facilitate a smoother transition, paving the way for renewed professional fulfillment and personal growth.

💼 Whether it is a physical injury, medical issue, personal loss, or any other of the many trauma’s professional women face, I help you reclaim your career and confidence through tailored strategies, I empower you to navigate workplace reintegration with resilience, clarity, and self-assurance.

🌟 Let’s Talk Youth Mental Health 🌟

Today is Day, and the focus on mental health feels more urgent than ever—especially for our youth. Young people face so many challenges: academic pressure, social media influence, and navigating their identities in an increasingly complex world.

That’s why I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—I’ve been invited to speak at a local high school about mental health! 🎤💬 Together, we’ll have an open conversation about recognizing emotions, building resilience, and finding support when life feels overwhelming.

Youth mental health is a cause close to my heart. It’s a privilege to share tools, insights, and personal experiences that can empower young minds to prioritize their well-being. I believe that by talking openly about mental health, we can break the stigma and equip the next generation with the confidence to ask for help when they need it.

Let’s make every day a hashtag day. By creating safe spaces and having honest conversations, we can support youth in developing the tools they need to thrive.

How are you supporting mental health today? Let’s share ideas, resources, and inspiration to keep the conversation going. 💙
