The picture youโre looking at captures a moment post our Kevala Yoga Sadhana session held today at Kevala Yoga and Wellness. This class, held each day from 6 am to 7 am, holds a special place in the hearts of many members who make it a point to attend whenever possible.
The timing of this class is not random; it is chosen with both scientific and spiritual considerations. The class is strategically scheduled during the time before sunrise known as โbrahma muhurata,โ which translates to the time of consciousness. During this period, your body and mind are active and aligned in the most harmonious way. Itโs a scientifically and spiritually significant time.
A person truly on the yogic path engages in their practice early in the morning for the same reason, and this practice is referred to as their Sadhana. This intentional timing enhances the overall experience, aligning physical exercise with the natural rhythm of the body and mind. The session becomes more than just a workout; it becomes a mindful and harmonious start to the day.
Letโs break down what happens in the Kevala Yoga Sadhana class: We commence the session with the sacred practice of Aum chanting, creating vibrations within and around us with an intention to uplift the energy, setting a harmonious tone for the hour-long experience. The first 5 minutes are then dedicated to gentle rotations and stretches of the joints. This initial phase is crucial because during night sleep, the air element in our body is increased, and upon waking up, engaging in these gentle movements helps release this accumulated air element from the joints, preventing potential pain over time.
The next 35 minutes are devoted to sun salutations and various postures designed to stretch different parts of the body, providing a comprehensive full-body workout. Following this, we engage in a special sequence involving Traditional Breathwork (Kapalbhati & Bhastrika), Mudras, and Bandhas.
By the end of the class, youโll feel as if youโve shed layers of tension from your body. The traditional breathwork and meditation wrap up the session, leaving you with a sense of centeredness and grounding.
