September is Su***de Prevention Month — a time to bring compassion and practical action into our conversations about mental health. As a clinician I believe: listening without judgment, asking directly about risk, and helping create a plan for safety are some of the most helpful steps we can take.
Common warning signs: withdrawal from friends/family, increased substance use, sudden changes in sleep or appetite, uncontrolled anger, hopelessness, or talking about death. If you hear someone say they’re thinking about su***de, ask them directly, stay with them, remove means if possible, and help connect them to emergency or crisis support.
If someone is in immediate danger call emergency services (911) right away. Confidential crisis supports are available 24/7 — call or text 988 in Canada or the U.S. If you’d like help creating a safety plan, or to process these feelings, my practice is open for new daytime clients (in person, phone or virtual). You are not alone. 🦋
