CoHabit CoHabit will be an integrated, accessible, and affordable apartment complex where up to 50% of suites include disability support.

CoHabit is a community which alleviates loneliness and isolation, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging. About the CoHabit Housing Initiative:

Mission: Create a community where people with physical disabilities will manage their own decision-making and be supported to participate meaningfully in their daily lives. Vision: To achieve an inclusive and integrative culture which creates individual opportunities for maximum independence and capacity-building inside and outside of the home. Values: What we believe and what we stand for, guides us to carry out our goals.

What is the CoHabit Demonstration Project?

• New 60 suite integrated apartment block

• All suites fully accessible

• 20+ suites designated affordable housing

• 20 suites include in-house disability support services

Goals of the project:

• Support up to 20 adults with physical or other significant disabilities to move from a Personal Care Home to an integrated apartment with access to 24/7 disability support services

• Prove the integrated CoHabit model

Key Partners:

• Réseau Compassion Network

Project Update: We were very pleased to meet with the Assistant Deputy Minister and Senior Staff of the Department of Families last Friday. We requested they fund the annual disability service delivery for the CoHabit demonstration project.

Next steps: The department team will discuss the proposal with the Deputy Minister and Minister of Families. We are crossing our fingers for some good news!
