I used to energetically clear my home when life felt heavy. I loved making my home feel lighter after a breakup or a tough week. Now I do it because the world won’t stop breaking my heart.

Happy TDOR!!! 🏳️‍⚧️ On this Trans Day of Visibility I look back to one year ago when I had top surgery. Here is a picture of me getting dropped off - as you can see, I’m GLOWING. I didn’t share it on the socials at the time because it felt so deeply personal. Well, the personal is political, and politics sure are an ugly mess in terms of supporting trans/2S/NB/GNC folks right now!!!

As a social-justice oriented therapist in private practice who is trans myself, I have been struggling with being unable to provide a sliding scale. This means that many q***r clients cannot afford regular, ongoing, affirming care. But you may be able to help!

Weekend plans! I can’t remember where I read it, but the phrase has stuck with me ever since: ‘Listen to your body when it’s talking to you so it doesn’t need to scream.’ It can be hard to tune in to our bodies when we are tuned into global injustice. All the more reason to find ways to build resilience against targeted hatred and fascism. This weekend I’m nursing a couple of pulled muscles and feeding a burgeoning head cold. On the agenda: batch cooking, gentle yoga, mindful walks, couch rotting, and soaking in the tub. And gratitude. LOTS of gratitude. SO MUCH GRATITUDE.

We’d like to capture the joy and vibrancy of local q***r communities and create a bank of images and quotes that can be used in Rainbow’s printed materials, website, social and online platforms. Would you be willing?

We’re looking for families, individuals and couples to photograph, and ask they also provide a short quote that responds to the question: What is your hope for Manitoba’s 2SLGBTQ+ community?

We are hosting photo shoots over two weekends - April 27 & 28 and May 4 & 5 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The studio is in the Exchange area, and we expect those participating will be there for 30-40 mins. There are stairs leading into the building. Once inside, there is an elevator. We recognize that this is a barrier to participation for some folks. This particular studio is donating their time for this project and it’s what is making it possible for us. Email Noreen at noreenm@rainbowresourcecentre.org to schedule your preferred time slot.

By participating, you’ll get a copy of the images we capture and an $25 honorarium per person. We’ll also ask you to sign a release form that states we can use the photo(s) for 5 years.

We hope you consider being part of capturing the beauty and love of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
