Our final pick comes from one of our friendly dietitians, Tara! Tara supports folks at our Diabetes Centre and our Baby and Me group 🥰 she’s reading “Rest Is Resistance” by Tricia Hersey.
“I’d recommend this book because it challenges the belief that our worth is defined by productivity, and underscores the importance of reclaiming stolen time. It’s also rooted in Black liberation and outlines resisting white supremacy’s urgency culture, which is timely given that February is not only I love to read month, but is also black history month.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing our staff picks this month- now for some fun! Post a comment with one of your fave books to read or tag a fellow reader, and be entered to win your choice of the staff picks featured this month 📚

Happy reading!

Today’s post is brought to you by our amazing Service Navigator, Omar! Omar supports students in some of the schools in our community as well as being the driving force behind ❤️

Omar is reading the Black Panther, tales of Wakanda.

“This book is a telling of stories from Wakanda by different authors. I loved comic books growing up and this just continues that love of fantasy works. Plus a warrior king who took on the Avengers single handedly! C’mon! “

Check out other amazing fantasy and graphic novels in our community lending library ❤️ 📚

Today’s reader recommendation comes from Charity- a friendly face on our Family Wellness team, who takes care of outreach and navigation as well as our Baby and Me group 🥰 Charity is reading “How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk” by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
“I’m reading this because as both a parent of a young child and as part of the Family Wellness team, it’s important to me to know how to be approachable and clear in my communication, while being able to set limits and enforce boundaries in appropriate ways when needed.”

This book and many other great parenting support resources are available in our community lending library, thanks to a generous grant from Literacy for Life fund. Check out our titles today!

Cesar is reading “I Love You Forever” by . Why? “The book resonated to me long before having children of my own; the idea of the love that connects the mother and the child throughout their lives. As my family grew, the book was read to each of the kids as babies. It also is a connection to our child that we never got to meet but we still love and remember.”

“I am reading Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou. I just lost my mom recently and have been reflecting on important relationships in my life. I have learned a lot from my mother and my Baba. Now, as a grandmother, AKA Baba, I feel the urgency to connect even more with my children and grandchildren. I recently have started recording myself reading my 3 year old grand daughter’s favourite books, like My Grandma is Great by Eunice Moyle, and sending the video to my daughter who lives in Ontario. We all are having fun connecting that way! They try to remember which books I have at my house and requests a video of them.” 🥰

Books are a wonderful thing to share with the special people in your life- visit our lending library today to find some picks for the long weekend! ❤️
