Hi I'm Carla, Mother Birth is a Professional Certified Winnipeg Birth Doula + Birth Photographer! I live in Winnipeg with my husband and our three daughters born from 06-09 with amazing local Manitoba Midwives. I absolutely love everything about birth and am passionate about sharing my knowledge with others. My own vast variety of birthing experiences, my extreme passion and absolute trust of birth led me down the path to become a Birth Doula. I’ve had three completely different birthing experiences: a 36 hour vaginal; an emergency c-section with a seroma, resulting in birth trauma; and a beautiful healing VBAC the following year. Birth is deeply rooted in my family for many generations all the way back to my Great Grandmother who was a midwife, my Grandmother who delivered me, my Mother birthed me unassisted in the back seat of a moving car! I've always felt a strong calling towards birth work and followed my heart, so here I am ... Mother Birth. In my role of Birth Doula my birth support service includes assisting in childbirth by providing physical assistance, emotional support and educational information. Having a Doula on your Birth Support Team has so many benefits! Continuous labour support has proven to reduce labouring times, pain medications and cesarean rates! Having a Doula is all about making sure your wishes and needs are met. I am here to encourage and support you and your birth plan, whatever that may be. I believe every woman should be empowered and respected during childbirth. I strongly feel if a woman is well informed with a solid support system, then a positive birth experience is achievable. I'd be honoured to support you as your Doula. I come fully equipped with an extensive Doula Tool Kit, complete with two caring hands, natural pain relieving tactics, comfort measures, relaxation techniques and items for a calming environment. Everything from essential oils to stress relieving gadgets, focal points, massagers and robozos. I am trained in Spinning Babies, breathing patterns, labour positions, acupressure points, massage and rebozo techniques. I have access to all Winnipeg birthing facilities and the birthing tools as needed ... birthing ball or birthing chair, rope or rail, as well as a snacks, drinks, ice, a cool/warm cloth or cozy warm heated blankets. I support partners and family members by educating them in ways they can help, and allow them to take needed breaks as well. Having a Doula doesn't take away from anything or anybody, it just adds to the whole experience in a positive way! Often partners really want to help and support, but are feeling out of place because they do not know what to do or how they can assist ... we are there to help guide them through! Whatever your birth plan is, natural or medicated, I will assist you in your interest and respond promptly to your labour needs and desires. Birth is a beautiful thing and can be an amazing experience, it would be my pleasure to attend with you and help create memories that last a lifetime! Happy International Women's Day! Today reminds me of so many things including inner strength and driving passion. My amazing Mother Birth doula clients remind me of absolute power and complete determination. So many rock star mamas listen to their bodies, find their strength and trust birth. It's an honour and privilege for me to do this work, encourage women to find their power and stand witness to the amazing strength that women possess. What amazing creatures we are!

Happy Birthday Laryn Ellen! 15 years ago, you entered our lives in the calmest, quietest way possible. Well, little did we know then that you were the calm before the storm! You have filled our life with so much happiness, adventure, laughter, and VOLUME! Time has passed so quickly, one day we were holding you in our arms and the next you are this gorgeous young woman. We love your spirit and your joy for life and admire your confidence and your enthusiasm. You are always thoughtful of others and giving, you have THE biggest heart ever. You are so incredibly smart and determined. You have remained fiercely independent and everyday we are in awe of you, of your humour, of your kindness and of your ability to excel at anything you put your mind to. You can be stubborn (not sure who you got that from?? ha!) but you stand strong to your convictions … don’t ever change, continue to dance to the beat of your own drum, and whatever path you chose we’ll be right behind you, cheering you on! You complete us, in more ways than one … If you were born first you would have been an only child. You didn’t like to sleep, or anybody else to sleep either. That first year was a looooong one but you NEVER stopped smiling! Nobody ever told me that parenting was going to be so tough yet so beautifully rewarding. I feel every emotion that you experience ten-fold. Every scrape and bruise, every victory, every heartache. It was exactly like I was told, “having a child is like having your heart beat outside of your body.” We love you with every beat of our heart, every breathe of our body and every inch of our soul! Happy Birthday Boo! xo

MOTHER BIRTH ~ I'm 45 years old and live in Winnipeg with my husband and children. I am a professionally trained Doula and extremely passionate about birth, I love empowering and encouraging women. I'm a nurturer and care giver by nature and a mama to our three daughters who were all born from 06~09 with our midwife. I have lots pregnancy and childbirth experience attending over 100 births! I am a Doula because I absolutely love babies, childbirth and anything to do with pregnancy. I believe Doulas should be available and affordable to all women wanting this service. There is something so old, ancient and tribal about women supporting women in childbirth.

In my role of Doula I 'Mother the Mother' in a 'Labour of Love'. My Doula Services include assisting in childbirth by providing physical assistance, emotional support and educational information, as part of the Birth Support Team. Continuous labour support has proven to reduce labouring times, pain medications and cesarean rates, there are so many benefits to having a Doula. I come fully equipped with an extensive doula kit, complete with natural pain relieving tactics, essential oils, comfort measures, and calming relaxation techniques. I am trained in Spinning Babies focusing on easier birth with fetal positions, breathing patterns, labour positions, acupressure points, massage and rebozo techniques. Having a doula is all about having your wishes and needs are met in a non judgemental way. I will be by your side encouraging and supporting you and your birth plan, whatever that may be. I believe every woman deserves the right to be empowered and respected during childbirth. I strongly feel if a woman is well informed with a solid support system, than a positive labour experience is achievable.

I have personally had three completely different birth experiences; a very long 36 hour vaginal, an emergency C-Section resulting in birth trauma, and a very healing VBAC the following year! My own wide variety of birth experiences and my absolute trust of birth were the foundation for my journey down this path to becoming a Doula. I love empowering and supporting women through one of the hardest yet rewarding amazing experiences of their life!

Birth Companion Labour and Support Services Include: • Both Prenatal & Postpartum Visits • Labour Support for duration of Active Labor • Attending at Hospitals, Home, or Birth Centre • Post Birth Nursing ~ Breastfeeding Assistance • Birth Photography ~ 5 Images included, add on available! • Five Hand Edited Images from your Birth • Photo Birth Announcement with Birth Story Details • Spinning Babies ~ For Optimal Fetal Positioning • Hypnobabies Method of Hypnotic Childbirth • Unlimited Phone, Text or Email Support • Access to Lending Library, Tens Unit and Birth Pool • Investment: $750

It's called labour for a reason, it's hard work, and I will be right there by your side to guide you through with the constant caring support that you will need. Whatever your birth plan is, natural or medicated, hospital, birth centre or home, I will assist you in your interest and respond promptly to your labor needs and desires. I am currently offering my full Labour and Support Services for $750, I also offer Birth Photography add on if you would like to document your journey. The retainer is 50% of the fee and due upon booking along with a signed contract to secure your due date, and the balance is due by 36 weeks. I have very limited spaces available as I only take a few births a month. If you are interested, I can check your due date for availability!

Additional Postpartum Care or Support is available upon request and availability starting at an hourly rate of $25/hr, min 4 hrs.
