Over the next 9 months, we will be sharing one post each month with data from the Planet Youth survey completed by Grade 10 students at Woodstock High School in the spring of 2025. We’re taking a closer look at substance use among youth in Woodstock. When we try to understand when and why youth begin using drugs and alcohol, it helps us focus on prevention strategies that truly make a difference.

Homelessness is an issue affecting communities across Western New Brunswick — and it’s one that deserves open, respectful, and informed discussion. The Town of Woodstock is hosting two Community Conversation sessions to help residents better understand the current realities of homelessness in our region, hear directly from those working on the front lines, and ask questions in a constructive, welcoming space.

Session #1, Understanding Homelessness in Western NB, will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM at the McCain Community Theatre (WHS) in Woodstock. A second session, focused on solutions and supports, is tentatively scheduled in March, the date will be confirmed following the first session. Please see the poster link below for full details, including session topics and event logistics.

All residents from municipalities across Western NB are welcome to attend. We encourage you to share this with your friends, family, and community members that may benefit from participating in this important conversation.

A Message from our Network Partners from Horizon Health Network:
As we enter the holiday season, we know health needs don’t take a break, and neither does our commitment to supporting New Brunswickers in accessing the care that’s right for them.
Horizon is asking the public to do its part by becoming informed of the different health care options available to them before presenting to an emergency department (ED).
New Brunswickers have several care options available for non-urgent medical needs, and choosing the right one helps ensure better access to care for individuals and reduces strain on our EDs.
Here’s how New Brunswickers can help:
• Check your symptoms online to determine how serious they are and if a health care visit is needed.
• If you have a primary care provider, ensure they are your first point of contact for any medical concerns.
• Consider a virtual appointment with evisitNB, open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or a walk-in clinic in your area for consultations on common illness, injury, infection or general health concerns.
• Check out the hours of your local pharmacies, which can help with minor, uncomplicated ailments. And don't forget to refill any regular prescriptions before the holidays.
• Call Tele-Care 8-1-1 to help you navigate your options and provide reliable medical advice.
• Look after yourself and your loved ones. Addiction and mental health resources are available in-person, online or over the phone.
Anyone looking for more information on the different care options available to them should visit sowhywait.ca.
As always, anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 immediately so they can be transported to the nearest emergency department.
By helping residents understand where to go for what needs, we can reduce unnecessary wait times, support our health care teams, and ensure timely care for those who need it most.
Thank you for your continued leadership and collaboration in strengthening care for New Brunswickers. Your role in sharing this message is invaluable during one of the busiest times of the year.
