Crib safety: Nothing goes in or around the crib/bassinet except for a tight fitting sheet and pacifier if used. Always put your baby on their back to sleep. Swaddling is ok just make sure it’s secure. Any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out.

Paced Bottle Feeding - This feeding technique aims to slow feedings and for the baby to take breaks. This will help mimic breastfeeding.

Keeping the ni**le of the bottle half full and parallel to the floor while feeding will help with:
- Avoiding ni**le confusion
- Reducing gassiness
- Avoiding overeating
- Smoother digestion

It's important to use a wide-based slow-flow ni**le that will imitate the shape of your ni**le.

When feeding the baby, don’t to just shove the bottle in their mouth - you want to stroke the baby’s lips and wait for them to open their mouth to accept the bottle.

Remember:
🍼Switch the baby’s position within feedings
🍼 Burp frequently
🍼 Let the baby do most of the work while sucking

Let’s talk about Preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure while you’re pregnant or can happen up until six weeks postpartum.

Some of the signs and symptoms are:
- High blood pressure (over 140/90)
- Protein in your urine
- Headache
- Blurred vision
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Upper epigastric pain that is not relieved by medication
- Swelling of the hands and face

You can have one symptom or feel completely fine with just elevated blood pressure

It’s really important that you monitor your blood pressure three times a day, write them down and be in touch with your OB

How to help your baby differentiate between day and night?
Babies can start differentiating between night and day as early as 2 weeks old with gentle guidance.

Make a wake time and a sleep time – This can be whatever works with your schedule Just make sure it's approximately 12 hours apart.
• Wake Time:
🔆Interact with the baby – tummy time/talking/singing/book reading etc.
🔆Keep the shades open – you want the space to be light and bright
🔆Don’t be quiet around the baby: keep music or the tv on for noise
🔆Wake the baby for feedings and feed every 2 -3 hours
• Sleep Time:
🌙I like doing the 3 Bs so the baby knows the signs for sleep time:
🌙Bath, Book, Bottle/Breastfeeding
🌙I always used a sound machine, but this is habit forming
🌙Once that baby is in their sleep area
🌙NO eye contact
🌙The least stimulation possible
🌙No talking to the baby
🌙Feed the baby and put them back down to sleep
🌙Try not to turn on any lights or keep to a minimum

🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆 When your wake time hits its: Goooooooood Morning!!!!!!!!! How did you sleep? Unswaddle and do some stretches for the baby and start from the 🔝

Ever hear of The Period of Purple Crying aka Colic or The Witching Hour? Here are some tips to turn this off as per Dr. Harvey Karp:

Dr. Harvey Karp is a pediatrician who wrote the book and movie: “The Happiest Baby on the Block” as well as invented the “Snoo”. What he recommends is something called the 5Ss to stop The Period of PURPLE Crying.

What does the acronym stand for?
P – peaks around 2 months but can start as early as 2 weeks
U – unexpected comes out of nowhere
R – no matter what you do they resist soothing
P – they have a pain like face (they’re not actually in pain)
L – It can last anywhere from 20-30mis to 5-6 hours a day
E - Tends to happen in the evening time
*** Always make sure the baby is not hungry, has burped, is changed and isn’t in any danger before moving on.

Dr. Harvey Karp says, in order to turn The Period of PURPLE crying off, you need to do the 5Ss all at the same time:
*** Make sure you’re safely sitting down on a chair with your feet flat on the ground
• Swaddle – make sure the baby is swaddled comfortably with hands in the swaddle.
• Stomach or Side - place the baby on their stomach or side on your thighs or cradled in your arms
• Swing – you want to swing your thighs or arms (depending on the baby’s position) from side to side (so the baby is going forward and back)
• Suck – you want to give the baby a pacifier or clean finger to suck on
• Shhhhhhhhh out loud – This shushing sound will relax the baby and help them reminisce of all the sounds they heard in your belly. The louder the better!

Hand Expression is important for so many reasons…

* If you’re in a bind and feeling engorged
* If it’s time to nurse/pump and your baby and or pump are nowhere in sight
* If you’re still waiting on your breast pump to come in the mail 😉
* Waiting on baby to wake up from their nap
* Increase your milk supply

Hand Express into a bottle so we don’t let any go to waste.

How to Hand Express:
* Massage your breast and apply a warm compress * Take your fingers and make a “C” around your breast
* Push back with your fingers toward your chest wall
* Roll your fingers forward toward the ni**le
This is done gently and patiently. It could take a few rolls to get anything. Don’t give up! You got this!
