The Roundtable is pleased to announce Tyler Anbinder as our Spring Zoom event to discuss his new book: Plentiful Country.

Mining the Emigrant Savings Bank depositor records, census data and media of the period, Professor Anbinder creates a nuanced, provocative profile of the Famine immigrant population in New York City. Arriving with nothing, many of the migrants built savings accounts that they drew on to start businesses, buy property and send for more family in Ireland. They were more productive, entrepreneurial and successful than many previous histories have suggested. Members will receive invitation codes this month.

Mark your calendars for our December 7, 4 pm
Zoom event with Mark Bulik and Linda Dowling Almeida talking about the Irish response to oppression in America.

Drawing on research from Bulik’s two books, Ambush in Central Park and The Sons of the Molly Maguires, he will detail the only known IRA assassination in the US and the labor unrest of the 19th century in Pennsylvania coal country. How and why did they occur? What did the politics and culture of Ireland have to do with them?

Members will receive login codes closer to the event.
