Diana Ross is coming to Dallas.

Join us on Saturday, October 4, for the inaugural gala—a spectacular evening featuring a special performance by the iconic Diana Ross, hosted at the stunning home of Kathleen and Scott Kirby.

We are proud to honor the Gene & Jerry Jones Family for their inspirational philanthropic leadership and enduring support of amfAR’s mission to end the AIDS epidemic.

For over 25 years, the Dallas community has stood with us, raising more than $65 million for amfAR’s lifesaving research through TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art. This new chapter continues that extraordinary legacy.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two members of amfAR’s extended family: legendary Brazilian singer, actor, TV host, and activist Preta Gil, and groundbreaking actor and AIDS advocate Malcolm-Jamal Warner. A generous supporter of amfAR who graciously performed at several of our fundraising galas in Brazil, Preta was a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community and an exceptionally talented human being who inspired us all. Malcolm-Jamal was a longtime HIV/AIDS advocate and educator who joined our extended family as part of Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR, an annual motorcycle ride that raised AIDS awareness and funds for the foundation’s lifesaving research. Both Preta Gil and Malcolm-Jamal Warner will be greatly missed and we extend our deepest sympathy to their family and friends.

HIV, the flu, and the common cold are all caused by viruses. But only HIV carries a stigma that can drive people to avoid testing or treatment and to not seek out prevention medication, called PrEP, that can protect them. This Zero HIV Stigma Day, amfAR calls on everyone to help break that stigma one conversation at a time. Find testing sites and additional resources under the About HIV/AIDS section at amfar.org

Meet amfAR’s 2025 Mathilde Krim Fellows: Drs. Elizabeth Hastie, Hannah King, Tianling Ou, and Francisco Zapatero Belinchon. An exceptionally high level of interest among applicants this year reflects the increasingly competitive funding environment for HIV researchers. amfAR is proud to be able to support these four incredible scientists and their bold and innovative ideas for the next two years.

“With close to $1 billion in recent cuts to HIV research at the National Institutes of Health, it’s impossible to overstate the importance of amfAR’s research grants and fellowships in helping end the global HIV/AIDS epidemic,” amfAR’s Director of Research Dr. Andrea Gramatica said.

A new report warns that U.S. funding cuts could lead to 4 million more AIDS-related deaths by 2029 - despite decades of progress that has saved 27 million lives. Treatment disruptions, clinic closures, staff layoffs, and weakened health systems are putting millions at risk. Read the key takeaways and what’s at stake through the link in our bio.

Some people living with HIV have been able to control HIV after discontinuing antiretroviral therapy (ART) but scientists don’t fully understand why this phenomenon happens.

Other people living with HIV have achieved post-treatment control—for short amounts of time—after ART is interrupted in the context of an HIV cure intervention. For example, an amfAR-funded HIV cure trial established proof of concept that individuals may be able to achieve post-treatment control, at least partially, as part of a combination immunotherapy. That’s significant because long-lasting post-treatment control, once achieved, would help indicate a successful HIV cure.

Researchers, including several amfAR grantees, are looking at both instances of post-treatment control, trying to determine the factors that promote keeping HIV from rebounding in order to refine the strategy as part of curing HIV.

amfAR talks with Dr. Linda Aurpibul, of Chiang Mai University, about supporting young adults living with HIV who started antiretroviral therapy in childhood as they navigate new challenges to stay on top of their health.

With the help of Dr. Annette Sohn, director of amfAR’s TREAT Asia program, Dr. Aurpibul and other Thailand-based researchers documented the needs of this population and developed recommendations not only for treatment support but also support for mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and other age-related health issues.
