“I have a wonderful career. Working with so many customers, colleagues and managers at Swiss Post is my dream job,” says 56-year-old Daniel from Steffisburg enthusiastically. “What motivates me? You can achieve a lot with a good team – each of us is like a cogwheel. Swiss Post connects business customers and private customers and sparks emotions in millions of people every day.” ⚙️

Daniel has worked at Swiss Post for 38 years, 33 of which have been in Sales. Today, he is part of the Customer Solutions team and no longer looks after individual customers. Instead, he incorporates the cross-unit Swiss Post perspective into important projects and sells customer solutions, often in addition to standard products. For the past two years, he has been particularly committed to the “2 x Christmas” campaign in association with the Swiss Red Cross – a charitable initiative that helps people living in poverty and offers them everyday assistance.

“Fewer parcels have been donated in recent years. We have worked with the SRC across all the different units to develop measures to reverse this trend – by distributing fliers and delivering collectors’ bags locally that can be filled, simply left in front of the house and collected by Swiss Post staff,” explains Daniel. And best of all, this year, he’s not only strategically involved, but is also lending a hand in practice! As a volunteer, he sorts the donated goods at the SRC logistics center in Wabern (BE). 🎁

Have you already prepared your parcel for “2 x Christmas”? Every donation counts! ❤️

“I was really calm in my mind,” says Elias. 🧘🏼 The 32-year-old mail carrier from Wallisellen took part in in Thun in August. “I knew I could reach my goal.” Yet he still had respect for the 226 km.

For a long time, Elias himself had little idea that one day that he would take part in an Iron Man event. Although sporty as a child, his doctor tells him four years ago that Elias absolutely has to do more exercise again to stay healthy. “I thought running is easy. Apart from good training shoes, I don’t need any equipment.” So Elias takes up running.

A year later, he runs his first marathon in Zurich. “A pro runs a marathon in about two hours, and I reached my destination in four hours and 48 minutes. But that didn’t bother me. I was just happy to have made it over the finishing line.” 🏁

His attention is then drawn to the Iron Man Switzerland event in Thun. “I needed a new challenge, something to clear my head.” He signs up in August 2024. From that point on, he trains six days a week, including running, swimming and cycling.

Elias checks his supplies one last time before starting in August 2025. Special gel for runners and water with mineral salts is all he eats in the next 14 hours and 40 minutes. Then, during the 20 kilometre bike section, Elias gets a shock – he feels leg cramps that almost force him to pull out. “At that moment, I had to win the battle against myself. “My body was tired, but my mind was fully there.” Elias keeps going. Finally, he reaches the finish line: “I can’t describe this moment at all, there were just so many emotions out there”🏆

And what does the future hold? “I still train several times a week at the moment, but now family is my number one priority.”

Today, we’re celebrating World Post Day 🙌📯 – and the special hobby of Swiss Post IT engineer Thomas. At Swiss Post, he’s responsible for the administration of Jira and Confluence – both important tools for project management and internal collaboration. In his free time, he sends and receives thousands of postcards. Thomas is connected to all like-minded people via the postcrossing.com platform. He even found the love of his life there. 💕

Postcrossing is a global network where people randomly receive addresses to send and receive postcards from all over the world. 🌍 Thomas has used the platform since 2018 and has already sent and received over 10,000 post-cards. “For me, it’s more than just a hobby,” he says. “It’s a vibrant exchange, a little round-the-world trip by post-card.”

Thomas loves to choose his cards carefully and stamp them accordingly. “For me, this includes three elements: the design of the card, the stamp and the postmark.” His postcards are little artworks themselves. 🖼️ His collection of stamps, postcards and writing instruments is impressive and fills boxes and shelves. And he even organizes face-to-face meetings with other postcrossers in Switzerland and Europe.

The most wonderful experience he’s had with Postcrossing involved more than just friends and beautiful cards: he got to know Melina, the love of his life from Dortmund, via the portal. “ 💑 After a year and a half of sending many cards and letters to each other, we met in person for the first time – and have been a couple ever since.” Today, they live together in Faulensee, surrounded by the picturesque mountains around Lake Thun.

Thomas and his special hobby show how much magic a simple postcard can offer: it connects people across borders, creates friendships – and sometimes even brings true love. 🪄

A few months ago, our apprentices Leoni injured her knee in a kickboxing competition – a dramatic experience for the up-and-coming talent. She’s pleased that she can rely on the electronic patient record (EPR) during treatment.

How did you get into kickboxing?

From the age of six, I could often be found at my uncle’s kickboxing school. He’s a Swiss champion several times over as well as my coach. I’ve been actively training for over five years – and up to six times a week before my injury.

What do you like about kickboxing?

The combination of technique, speed and mental strength. Every struggle is a challenge for the body, but also for the mind. You learn discipline and perseverance and to focus on the moment. Sport also gives me a strong sense of freedom and self-confidence.

Can you tell us more about the accident?

In the final minutes of the competition, I made a wrong move after a kick, fell and felt my knee crack. I wanted to carry on, but I collapsed again when I put weight on it. That’s why I went to the nearest hospital for an examination. The doctor told me that I’d need to have several checks performed. She also recommended that I open an EPR.

How did you use the EPR?

I was able to keep all documents, such as X-rays, medical reports and therapy plans, in one place. This was very helpful throughout the many stages, from hospital care to GP visits and physiotherapy. I didn’t have to bring any paper documents or remember what was said or prescribed and when.

What was the biggest advantage for you?

I was better informed about the entire treatment. In the past, I sometimes had difficulty remembering medical terms or understanding what was discovered during an examination. Now I can look it up in my record at any time.

Who would you recommend the EPR to in particular?

Anyone like me who practises a sport with a high risk of injury. But it actually makes sense for everyone, as you can store vaccinations, examinations or laboratory results in one place and access them at any time.

How are you doing today? Can you pursue your passion again?

I was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament, so I need to take things slowly. I’ve already been able to start fitness exercises and boxing training again. The kickboxing will have to wait a little longer. But my goal is clear: I want to compete again.
