Finding pockets of time for myself as a mom of two little humans is challenging, near impossible in this season of life. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Also, I'm having to be aware of making time for small moments of connection to myself and my body throughout my day, alongside my children. This has become especially important since the birth of my 2nd son.
Today, that looked like reading in the sun while my toddler played in a rock pool.
And later, deep breathing and enjoying some tea as I breastfed my baby.
I have times when I'm better and worse at prioritising these moments of self care, and gosh, its far from perfect (definitely scroll my phone too often when I'm breastfeeding or supporting my kids to sleep - something I'm working on doing better). But I do know that taking care of me first means taking care of all of us better.
Obvs, this is much easier to do being on a beach holiday, so there's that too 😂Sharing this as a reminder to myself mainly.
At some point in my journey to understanding more about optimal health, I somehow internalised that selfcare meant time away from my children, time just for me, and would get so frustrated when I didn't get the "me time" I thought I needed. I see it differently now... Definitely not saying we don't need "me time", but what I do feel in my heart of hearts is that, for self care to become an integral part of my day to day and for it to be a sustainable practice and way of life, it needs to happen alongside my children.
This is important to me not only because my body, health and nervous system reap the benefits of these micro-moments of connection to myself, which sets me up for presence and calm in my mothering (I mean😅as calm as it gets with 2small boys, and gosh some days I could do all the self care in the world and still lose my temper lol, it's all a work in progress) but also because I'm showing my little boys what it means to care for myself, to be present with myself, to take care of my body and mind. That matters to me a lot.
I'm so curious to hear how others prioritise self care in their day to day. Please do share in the comments if you feel to 🥰🙏
