INTERNATIONAL KIDNEY DAY 2024: KEEP YOUR KIDNEYS THRIVING!

Today, on World Kidney Day (March 14th, 2024), let's celebrate our amazing kidneys and learn how to keep them healthy!

Silent But Mighty: The Power of Your Kidneys
These bean-shaped organs are superstars at filtering waste products, balancing fluids, and regulating blood pressure. They play a vital role in keeping us healthy, but often go unnoticed.

Chronic Kidney Disease: Early Detection is Key
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious condition where your kidneys gradually lose function. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity are major risk factors. Early diagnosis is crucial for managing CKD and preventing complications.

This is a growing concern globally. CKD can develop slowly and often has no early symptoms.
Importance of Early Diagnosis:
Regular checkups, including blood tests and urine tests, can help detect CKD early. If you have risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity, be extra vigilant.

Fueling Your Kidneys for Optimal Health

Diet plays a significant role in kidney health. Here are some tips:
Hydrate:
Water is your kidney's best friend! Aim for 8 glasses daily.
Choose fruits and vegetables: They're packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support kidney function.
Limit processed foods:
These are often high in sodium and unhealthy fats, which can stress your kidneys.
Reduce protein intake (if advised by your doctor): Excessive protein can put a strain on your kidneys, especially with pre-existing CKD.
Join Value Health Africa to Spread Awareness on Facebook

In the comment section below, discuss your favorite healthy kidney-friendly recipes!

Together, let's promote kidney health and empower everyone to take charge of their well-being!

Fight against Violence

VAHA as a member of

The Central African Youth Feminist Network, the Collective, and the Je M'engage Cameroun Advocacy Group condemn the growing violence against women and girls in Cameroon.
The signatory organizations are alarmed by the increasing number of cases of assault, r**e, and harassment against women and girls in Cameroon. These acts of violence, which reveal a painful reality rooted in a culture of violence, require urgent attention and concerted efforts to address the underlying issues that contribute to this violence.
As feminist movements committed to strengthening democracy, protecting freedoms, and fighting for social justice, the signatory organizations call for:
• A rapid and thorough investigation of crimes committed against women and girls, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice quickly;
• Broad-based public awareness campaigns to challenge harmful stereotypes, eliminate victim-blaming, and promote a culture of respect and equality;
• Addressing the root causes of gender-based violence by the Cameroonian government, including strengthening and enforcing laws that protect women;
• Community engagement to address the deeply ingrained cultural attitudes that contribute to violence against women and girls.
It is imperative that we work collectively towards a just nation for all, where every individual has the right to live free from the threat of violence based on their s*x. The signatory organizations urge Cameroonian society to unite against violence against women, promoting empathy, understanding, and collective responsibility to create a safer and more equitable future.
In solidarity,

Value Health Africa Stands Together Against Gender-Based Violence

Value Health Africa joined hands with over 50 civil society organizations (CSOs) to proudly participated in the 16th days of activism organized by MINPROFF at the MINPROFF Hall in Bonanjo, Douala, Cameroon

The event focused on addressing the critical issue of GBV, particularly violence against women (VAW), in the Littoral region.

Experts delved into the current landscape of VAW and GBV, highlighting the prevalence, forms, and impact of these forms of violence. Participants gained a clear understanding of the distinction between VAW and GBV, recognizing that while VAW is a subset of GBV, it holds unique characteristics and requires specific interventions.

The event also explored existing mechanisms and circuits for providing care and support to victims of VAW and GBV, ensuring that survivors have access to the necessary resources and services.

Moreover, the concept of positive masculinity was introduced, emphasizing the importance of fostering healthy and respectful attitudes among men, challenging harmful gender norms, and promoting gender equality.

UNFPA Cameroon and Ministère de la Promotion de la Femme et de la Famille bring the necessity of CSOs to Join together and create a world where everyone is safe from harm and where gender equality is a reality.

World Diabetes Day, November 14th, 2023

Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, yet millions of people around the world still face significant barriers in accessing diabetes care. The theme for World Diabetes Day 2023, "Access to Diabetes Care" aligns with the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Region's NCD flagship.

Globally, around 422 million people have diabetes, and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes every year. In the WHO South-East Asia Region, more than 96 million people are estimated to have diabetes. Diabetes and its complications (blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower limb amputation) bring about substantial economic loss to people with diabetes and their families, and to health systems and national economies. This toll is manifested through direct medical expenses and the loss of work and wages. The predictions regarding the future economic burden of diabetes are as alarming as those regarding its future prevalence.
Value Health Africa adds it's voice this day to express the need for improved access to diabetic care inorder to reduce the global burden
