Why Family Members Are Not Always the Best Caregivers
Love is powerful, but love alone does not make someone a caregiver.
When family members provide long-term care, emotional attachment often replaces professional judgment. This can lead to exhaustion, resentment, guilt, and even unintentional neglect.
Caregiving requires skill, boundaries, patience, and training. Family caregivers are rarely prepared for the physical, emotional, and psychological demands involved. Over time, relationships suffer, and both the caregiver and the person receiving care are affected.
Choosing a professional caregiver does not mean you love your family less.
It means you value dignity, safety, and quality of care while preserving family relationships.
Care should strengthen families, not break them.
