💡 Building Capacity, Strengthening Commitment | OPHEG Volunteer Training

At Optimum Health Global (OPHEG), we believe that the heart of every successful project lies in the strength, knowledge, and passion of its volunteers. That’s why we recently held our Compulsory Volunteer Training Session—and what an amazing experience it was!

This dynamic session brought together volunteers on-site in Kumba and online from out of town, ensuring no one was left behind. From thought-provoking discussions to uncovering new strategies, it was more than just a training—it was a moment of growth, connection, and empowerment.

✨ What made it special?
• Volunteers received practical guidance on effective community engagement.
• New perspectives were uncovered to strengthen our outreach.
• Both old and new members had the chance to align with OPHEG’s mission and values.
• A renewed spirit of service was ignited across our volunteer family.

We are deeply inspired by the commitment of our volunteers who continue to stand as the driving force behind OPHEG’s work in transforming healthcare and communities. 💚

The journey doesn’t end here—it only gets bigger and better. With this training, we step forward with more energy, more ideas, and more passion to serve.

Together, we are not just volunteers, we are change-makers. 🌍✨

🌍💚 Strengthening Health Systems, One Community at a Time 💚🌍

Optimum Health Global (OPHEG) is proud to have partnered with the Kumba South Health District in the just-concluded Supportive Malaria Supervision of Health Facilities.

Over the past days, our joint teams worked hand in hand with health workers across the district—assessing service delivery, improving data quality, and sharing best practices to enhance malaria prevention and treatment.

The journey ended today in Ekombe Bonji, a distant community with inspiring health workers who continue to serve with resilience despite limited resources. Their dedication is a powerful reminder of why we do this work: to ensure that no community is left behind in the fight against malaria.

At OPHEG, we believe that partnerships like this are key to building stronger, healthier communities. Together, we are moving closer to the vision of a malaria-free future. 🌟

🌍✨ HOPE in Kake II Bokoko! ✨🌍

A few weeks ago, we launched the H.O.P.E Project which aims at reaching out to hard-to-reach communities with free health services.

From Sunday 10th – Monday 11th August 2025, our team (made up of medical doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, midwives, pharmacists, etc) carried out a TWO -DAY FREE medical outreach in Kake II Bokoko, one of the many villages deeply affected by the ongoing crisis in the Southwest and Northwest regions.

Despite poor weather conditions, rough road networks, insecurity concerns, and limited resources, our passion to bring health and hope to underserved communities pushed us forward. 💪🏾❤️

🔹 Highlights of the Outreach:
• 📋 Free medical consultations and health screenings to more than 60 people (children, youths, adults and elderly) who came in various batches.
• 💊 Distribution of essential drugs and health supplies
• 🩸 Basic laboratory tests (malaria, typhoid, blood pressure, glucose checks, sexually transmitted infection tests, etc)
• 👩🏽‍⚕️ Health education sessions on hygiene, nutrition, preventive care, communication and non communicable diseases etc,.
• 👶🏾 Care for children and the elderly who are most vulnerable. 🚑 Referral of serious and complicated cases to the hospital in the nearby town - Kumba, for better management. 🎁 We handed gifts to the attendees: sanitary pads for young girls, insecticide treated mosquito nets, dresses, shoes etc.

🌟 Community Response:
The turnout was overwhelming. Many villagers, some walking long distances under the rain, came with hope in their eyes. Patients expressed deep gratitude for the care and relief they received, with some describing the outreach as “a divine visitation” in a time of hardship. For many, this was the first time in months—if not years—that they had access to professional healthcare services.

This mission reminded us that even in the hardest times, love and service can break through barriers. 💚

🙏🏾 We are thankful to our volunteers, partners, and the resilient people of Kake II Bokoko for making this possible.

📣 We respectively call on goodwills to help us extend our reach to more communities and in better ways - with medical supplies, financial supports, and other donations to help us ease our reach to these communities. We are already planning for the next community.

The H.O.P.E Project Is Here!

Health Outreach for People Everywhere, that’s what H.O.P.E stands for. And that’s exactly what we’re bringing to the forgotten corners of Meme Division and beyond.

From July to November 2025, the OPHEG Community Health Outreach Team is hitting the ground running, reaching the unreached, touching lives in the most vulnerable, hard-to-reach communities with free medical care, donations of essential items, and life-saving health education.

🩺 Children will be dewormed.
🧕 Girls will receive sanitary protection.
🥣 Families will be nourished.
💊 Lives will be saved.
💙 Hope will be restored.

This is more than an outreach, this is a movement of compassion. And we can’t do it without you.

💡 Aside being a volunteer or field agent, if your heart is stirred to give *financially, donate items (food, meds, clothing, sanitary pads, mosquito nets, etc.)*, or partner with us in anyway possible, we welcome your support with open arms.

📍 More details on the road map will be shared soon.
📲 For now, please help us spread the word — share the flyer and bring someone else into this mission of love.

Together, let’s bring hope where it’s needed most.

DAY 5: THE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE NURSES CONFERENCE - KUMBA, 2025.

It was another memorable and impactful session of the Festival. We couldn't go all along forgetting the importance of getting informed or acquiring knowledge from various angles!

The Conference was attended by Nursing students from various institutions in Kumba, various hospitals in Kumba and other fields. The aim of the conference was to remind the Nurses of their Value and Role they play in the community, taking them back to who Florence Nightingale was, and restoring the sense of passion embedded in the Nursing Profession again.

The speakers we had touched various aspects and subjects during the conference which gave it much beauty.

1. Ojong David who spoke on Nurses and the Job Market: He emphasized on how nurses can prepare and present themselves in the job market. How nurses can maintain themselves as employees under an employer, the rights of a nurse under the Labor Code of Cameroon.

The session being very rich and captivating, attendees paid close attention to gain the words of the speaker. Ojong David is the President of Meme Youths Empowerment Community - MEYEC
2. Dr Foy I. Stanley, who spoke on Passion in the Nursing Profession. This was one of the most interesting sessions as Dr Foy, who is considered the Nurses Doctor spoke to the consciences of the attendees.

He recounted that "Nurses are the backbone of the entire healthcare system, but if the backbone is not viable enough, what becomes of the healthcare system"? He left the attendees with a mind searching question.."why did you want to become a nurse?". Dr Foy is the Chief Medical Officer of St. Francis Polyclinic, Kumba.

3. Mr Abwa Takang, who spoke on Mindshift as a serious tool for capacity development. He dated back history from post WW2 and how refined mindset brought the Americans to where they're today.

Mr Abwa challenged the Nurses to refine their minds, which could make our health system a better place.
It should be recounted that Mr Abwa Takang is the Regional President for the Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC).
