đ§ïž Guyu & Kidney Health â Ancient Wisdom for Modern Wellness
Today is Guyu (Grain Rain) â the 6th solar term on the Chinese calendar. As the name suggests, rain nourishes the earth, preparing it for summerâs growth. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this seasonal shift also calls for special attention to our Kidneys.
Spring is associated with the Liver (Wood), summer with the Heart (Fire). The Kidneys (Water) act as the bodyâs foundation. During Guyu, rising humidity can create âdampnessâ â a Yin pathogen that may burden the Spleen, obstruct Qi flow, and aggravate symptoms like fatigue, bloating, and poor appetite. For those with chronic kidney disease (CKD), managing dampness becomes especially important.
đż Simple TCM tips for Guyu:
-Eat Spleen-strengthening, dampness-dispelling foods: coix seeds, red adzuki beans, Chinese yam, black beans, black sesame.
-Keep your lower back and feet warm â cold drains Kidney energy.
-Gentle exercises like Tai Chi or walking â aim for light perspiration, avoid heavy sweating which depletes Yin fluids.
-Stay calm and avoid irritability, as Liver Qi is easily stagnant in spring.
Let the rain of Guyu remind us to nurture our roots â the Kidneys. Small daily choices can bring lasting balance.
