Emergency Training Services Nosara

Emergency Training Services Nosara American Heart Association certified instructor offering courses in Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, BLS, and ACLS. Thank you for visiting my page.

I graduated in 2000 w/ a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and have been a RN since then. I have almost a decade of experience in acute and critical care settings before moving to Nosara, including Coronary Care Unit, Cardiothoracic/Open Heart Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical Intensive Care, Code Blue team, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Electrophysiology Lab. By nature of these specialties, I have

more practical experience than most non-cardiac doctors/nurses in Basic and Advanced life support and managing a wide variety of cardiovascular emergencies. My goal is to provide CPR training to as many locals as possible. Studies have shown a high correlation between community CPR training, bystander CPR, and overall increased survival rates for cardiac arrest since 80% of all cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals. I highly recommend training to teachers, school staff, nannies, first responders, family members and caretakers of anyone w/ a heart or lung condition, parents, surf instructors, exercise instructors, hotel/restaurant managers, tour operators, and retirees or anyone that spends lots of time around people over 50, and anyone else that has a higher probability of encountering a victim of respiratory or cardiac arrest in the community. It's better to have these skills and never need them than the other way around. AHA courses are designed as video based and hands on learning courses so that the learner gets a lot of opportunity to practice these skills. AHA is the world leader in Resusitation research and training and their courses are updated every 5 years to reflect research. I will be teaching these courses primarily in English at first but I am working on improving my medical spanish to be able to offer fully bilingual courses in the future. If you prefer online learning to an all classroom course, I can provide that through AHA online and booking an appointment to come in for a skills check after you have completed the online course. Manuals are available in english for most courses (spanish for the combination first aid/CPR course only) and also available in electronic format if that is preferred. Please contact me if you have any other questions or to set up or join a course.

Safety training can save lives. I've had a lot of fun connecting with 25 freshly trained community members who are now more prepared to take quick action in the event of an emergency.

It's heart month! Looks like the president of the AHA literally picked the best place/time ever to have his first heart attack, a hotel full of the cardio tribe. A well written story of it. CPR saves lives!!! Course dates coming soon.

American Heart Association president John Warner had a heart attack at a heart meeting. This is the full story of what happened, from death to revival.

First aid and CPR skills are required parenting skills in my book! I'm always happy when new or soon-to-be parents sign up for a course. :)

A little bit of history on defibrillation. :)

A great illustration of why everyone should know the signs/symptoms of a heart attack and NOT DELAY seeing medical help. This is also why I trained as a cath lab nurse to work on a specialized team at the speed of a nascar pit crew to literally stop heart attacks in progress. The mantra "time is muscle" is drilled into us b/c every minute that a coronary is blocked, the heart muscle is in danger of permanent death. That black area is dead. Coronary artery disease is the number one cause of cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is the number one cause of death and it happens in the blink of an eye. 80% of cardiac arrests happen OUTSIDE of healthcare settings. This is why I want to teach the world CPR! Learning high quality Resuscitation is the only way to give someone a chance to get treatment and stop this process.

How much exercise is too much and what are the long term effects of extreme exercise on the heart? While we've known about the dangers of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in athletes and arrhythmias in a runners heart for a long time, this has been a hot topic in cardiology research the last few years. All things in moderation. Also another great reason why ALL exercise teachers/coaches should stay current w/ CPR certifications. https://medium.com//why-ultra-exercise-should-be-combined-with-ultra-nutrition-ultra-sleep-and-ultra-testing-8cf8eea30ef6

High quality "pit crew" style CPR is not a new concept. This has been the major focus of AHA courses since the early 2000's and it is how I've always practiced as an ACLS certified resuscitation nurse. And guess what? It definitely improves survival rates. If you are going to learn to do CPR, come learn how to do it the best way for survival with me.

An amped-up CPR method is saving lives in Charleston County, as firefighters and paramedics throughout the area have completed training on a new CPR technique called high performance CPR.It’s no longer just about mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and checking p

CPR should be considered a life skill for all. Bystander CPR saves lives.

An excellent argument for EVERYONE to learn CPR!

Taken from my AHA instructor community:
How a 14 year old Girl Saved Her Mother's Life

The signs of trouble started shortly after dinnertime.

That was when my mother started to have difficulty breathing & had to use her asthma medication.

The first call when out to the restaurant, where my sister had gone to dinner. No cell phones back then, it was 1977.

As things went from bad to worse, I placed another call to my sister - “Mom’s not doing so well. Can you come home?” I remember her saying they were just getting ready to leave & would be there shortly.

Just as my sister & brother in law walked in the door, my mother, who was on the couch in the living room, lost consciousness.

I remember thinking: ‘Thank God they’re here. They’ll know what to do.’

But I quickly realized as my sister went to the kitchen phone to call for help, my brother in law DID NOT know what to do & I had better do something.

Thanks to Mr. Earnest, my 5th grade teacher at Bass Lake Elementary School, I KNEW WHAT TO DO!

You see, 4 years earlier, Mr. Earnest had made us learn CPR!

It had been something they’d started teaching to the public & he decided his class would learn it! I don’t remember us practicing on mannequins but I do remember taking a written test! He called it “The Lifesaving A,B,C’s!”

So I asked my brother in law to help me move my mother to the floor & tried again to get her to respond. When she didn’t – I started to talk myself through the A,B,C’s.

Funny, I could remember the alphabets but NOT the numbers – I remembered there was enough oxygen in my breath so I just started breathing…….

I can’t tell you how long it took for the sheriffs to arrive – but when they did, they took over & my mom was transported to the hospital.

I often think about what would have happened if I’d never learned CPR and how my life would have been so different if Mr. Earnest had never taught us those lifesaving A,B,C’s.

When I had the chance to become an instructor – I jumped on it! I love being an AHA instructor! For me, it’s giving people that same opportunity to save a loved one’s life. I want them to know just what to do!

I came up with an analogy I use and I’d like to share it with you:

To get somewhere in a car you have to have 2 things present; 1) some gas in the gas tank, 2) a fuel pump that takes the gas & delivers it to the engine so it can keep running!

People are just like cars! We have gas tanks – they’re called “our lungs” and we have a fuel pump – called “our heart”. Together, they keep the engine – “our brain” getting all the gas it needs! Our gas is OXYGEN!

CPR is simply taking the place of what is missing to make sure there are no interruptions and our brain gets all the gas it needs!

Oh, and AED's are the “jumper cables”!
