Spine Health
How Essentrics focuses on improving posture. Good posture is really the result of a well- aligned spine. The spine is the combination of 33 vertebrae (bones) separated by 26 movable joints. Good posture is one of the main objectives of Essentrics. To achieve this objective, Essentrics uses the arms as " equipment" to help pull on the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the spine. In our fitness program the use of arms as " equipment" to eccentrically lengthen the spine and trunk. You probably have seen in our workouts the arms above the head as a primary method of lengthening the spinae erector muscles, a large percentage of exercises. The importance of on having healthy muscles of the spine is to recruit all of the them safely, to lengthen, strengthen and rebalance them. You'll notice from coming to an Essentrics classes you will gain maximum flexibility of the muscles throughout, using both short and small muscles are considered as important as larger ones. " We are only as flexible as our tightest muscle", is one of the mantras of this program. Good posture is impossible to achieve without all the muscles, including the small and large ones being equally strong and flexible. One of the reasons I became a Essentrics Instructor is because, I have no more back pain, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, piriformis, poor posture, poor digestion, cardiovascular disease. And recently an injury from a car accident that left me with a concussion, a lot of pain in my neck, arm and back. Essentrics helped me recovered quickly to return to teaching again within 4 months. This has remarkably changed my life, along with others including my husband, and my students. To create this new normal you have to remind yourself this, taking small steps to create a healthy movement in your body. Start with just a daily flow of movements to rebalance the full-body.
