When you want to beat the heat and be inside doing something, try out this idea and make a goal setting vision board.
Visualize what recovery looks like to you.

Never made a vision board? A vision board is a collage of images and words representing a person's wishes or goals, intended to serve as inspiration or motivation. You can hang these vision boards in your room to look at as motivation everyday. Get some old magazines, play calming music to set a relaxed atmosphere, and answer the question, "What inspires you in recovery?"

Hobbies are beneficial for mental health because they offer stress relief, improve mood, enhance focus, and foster a sense of accomplishment and social connection. Engaging in enjoyable activities can lower stress hormones like cortisol, boost dopamine release (associated with pleasure), and provide a sense of purpose and mastery.
What are your favorite hobbies that help with your mental health?

The process of recovery is highly personal and occurs via many pathways. The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides an insight into the 4 Dimensions of Recovery as detailed below:

"1. Health - Overcoming or managing one’s disease(s) or symptoms - for example, abstaining from use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medication if one has an addiction problem- and for everyone in recovery making informed, healthy choices that support physical and emotional well-being.

2. Home - Having a stable and safe place to live.

3. Purpose - Conducting meaningful daily activities, such as a job, school volunteerism, family caretaking, or creative endeavors, and the independence, income, and resources to participate in society.

4. Community - Having relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope."

Have you ever heard of EMDR Therapy? This is a therapy technique offered by many trained clinicians at WBH. EMDR therapy is "a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories" (APA).
