Esther Vergeer is primarily known as a former wheelchair tennis player, tournament director of the ABN Amro Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, chef de mission of the Dutch Team at the Paralympic Games and founder of the Esther Vergeer Foundation, which ensures that children with physical and/or chronic conditions can also participate in sports.

Esther has had a long-standing association with Sunrise Medical, dating back to 1998 as an intern in our marketing department. Today, Esther Vergeer continues to be a valued ambassador for Sunrise Medical. She recently started using an RGK wheelchair, which is an adjustment for her as she has been very loyal to the QUICKIE brand.

In her various roles, Esther strives for increased awareness, appreciation and opportunities for athletes with disabilities. Her mission aligns seamlessly with Sunrise Medical's commitment to "Improving People's Lives." In any case, Esther plans to remain in a Sunrise Medical wheelchair until the age of 80!

🎉 Join us in celebrating Pieter van de Schaaf's incredible journey and the 40th anniversary of Sunrise Medical! 🌟

Pieter, a true embodiment of dedication and responsibility, has left his mark all over the Sunrise Medical Helmond building in the Netherlands as a product engineer, facility manager, and health & safety officer. From setting up assembly lines to ensuring our incredible team's safety, he's been there every step of the way.

Starting in the metal workshop in 1992, Pieter's journey has taken him across the globe, supporting assembly line setups in Taiwan and Poland, assisting Trophy mobility scooter services in Canada, and contributing to a new factory layout in China.

Being part of Sunrise Medical fills Pieter with immense pride. His favorite products, powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters, make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. "When you see a person driving around in a Sunrise Medical powered wheelchair, you really know who you are doing it for," he says.

At Sunrise Medical, we’re reshaping our packaging practices to drive sustainability and efficiency.

In Spain, they have increased QUICKIE Q100R and Q200R base units per box from 2 to 8, while in the Nordic countries, Gemino rollators are now packed with two units per box instead of one.

These initiatives optimise logistics, reduce costs, and have a positive impact on our carbon footprint.

Thanks to our dedicated teams and their teamwork, we’re moving forward towards a brighter and greener future.

In the late 1980s, during the inception of Sunrise Medical's dedicated Rehab salesforce, I had the privilege of joining the team. It was an exciting time right after the acquisition of Motion Designs Quickie wheelchairs. Very few clinicians worked for manufacturers back then, making it an exciting era of emerging mobility technology.​

As part of this journey, I transitioned from sales to a new role that Sunrise entrusted me with—a national education program called the "Professional Series." This incredible opportunity allowed me to develop and deliver foundational knowledge to prescribing therapists and equipment distributors. Patrick Anderson, the unstoppable force of wheelchair basketball and proud member of ! 🌟🏀 Patrick is a Canadian wheelchair basketball player who is largely considered the best player in the world.

Patrick's incredible dedication from the age of 10 propelled him into the National team in just seven years. Patrick has a remarkable collection of medals, including 3 Paralympic golds and one silver!🏅

Over 21 years ago, I decided to leave the automotive industry in search of a purpose-driven company where I could truly make a meaningful contribution. Fortunately, I found exactly what I was looking for at Sunrise Medical. It has been an incredible journey being a part of this great company and industry.​

Throughout these past 21+ years, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles that have provided me with amazing opportunities to work alongside industry pioneers, influencers, and dedicated providers who serve our heroic and incredible end users. Additionally, I am grateful for our Sunrise dedicated family of associates and our award-winning products.​

Being a part of this journey has left an indelible mark on me. I've had the opportunity to share numerous experiences that have shaped who I am today.
