Today is World Meditation Day and Winter Solstice! What a wonderful combination; to pause, reflect, meditate and be in stillness on the shortest darkest day of the year!
With Winter Solstice, our ancestors used to gather to honour the passage from darkness into light! Slowly, the hope that the return of the light, the solar return as the day lengthens brings with it.
But, we also must acknowledge the power of the darkness. In the darkness buries in the soil, the seeds are planted, nourished and water. It is in the darkness that life starts, in the darkness of the womb that life starts! There is also power int the darkness. Personally, whilst I totally love the sunshine and the light it brings, sometimes I do crave that quiet darkness where I feel nourished by it and the stillness that it can bring.
So, yes now it is the time to plant your seeds, your intentions. What would you like to bring more into your life!
Take some time today to meditate with the candle light, symbolically burn what you dont want to carry forward into your life, and take time to write your intentions ideally in the present as if they are already in your life. Feel them visualise them here and now!
And, to end reflect, how can I bring more light into my life?
“We have a lamp inside of us. The oil of that lamp is our breathing, our steps, our peaceful smile. Our practice is to light up the lamp” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh … what a beautiful meditative quote on the light to bring all this together
