‘Everything starts from a dot.’ is a famous quote by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, who believed that a single dot is the fundamental starting point for all creative expression.

I took my grandchildren to see an exhibition by one of my favourite artists: Yayoi Kusama. We were fascinated by the colours, spaces and the DOTS.
We felt very free and at home.
Be attentive to what resonates with you: it could be art, nature, people, colours, spaces... That’s where you belong.
And to go there, start with just a dot.

So, after 17 years, I set off on my journey to Syria once more. The war is over, but no one knows how things will progress. As I wandered through the markets of the beautiful old town of Damascus, I met wonderful, friendly people at every turn. I also saw the destruction left behind by the war. Although it was not a relaxing trip, I feel very grateful, inspired and enriched by experiencing another culture and the resilience of its people.
Don’t believe the media. Always go there yourself.

Is that all there is to it?' is something I often hear in coaching in one form or another. When I first started coaching, I thought this question was particularly relevant to my 30-45 year old clients.
Recently, a young coachee was very surprised when I replied that I, as a woman in my 60s, had also recently asked myself this question.
And I think that's an uncomfortable but good thing.

What do you think is the opposite of anxiety?
The surprising answer I find in Martha Beck's book is: CREATIVITY!
I started reading today and after just a few pages I would like to recommend it not only to those who are tormented by panic attacks, but also to those (and there are many!) who lie awake at night with agonising thoughts about what could supposedly go wrong in their lives.
Martha Becks, herself plagued by panic and anxiety from an early age, describes how it is possible to activate the potential of our right brain to live "beyond anxiety".
"I just want you to know, that living beyond anxiety like any radical art, is countercultural."

It reads wonderfully like a thriller!

It is almost a week since I came back.
Rarely have I thought and said "THANK YOU" as often every day as I did during the 4 weeks I spent in Dahab/Sinai:
🌞 in the morning, when I pushed my bike out the front door looking at the bright pink bougainvillea.
🌞when I swam in the Red Sea at sunrise every morning
🌞when I practised Yoga on the beach with my wonderful teacher Zyogi and every yoga class felt like a love letter to my body.
🌞when I hiked through wadis and to the blue lagoon.
🌞when I enjoyed the best cheesecake at the German Bakery, simple Egyptian food in "Falafel King" or went to India in "Nirwana" on the beach.
🌞when I was so kindly hosted by Frederic Twin Peaks and Malik Elgannawy on Christmas Eve,
🌞when I let myself be touched by massages by Maggi May and Олена Турченюк
🌞when I met so many inspiring people from all over the world (Yvon Hajunga!)
🌞when I walked into our apartment and was greeted by my flatmate Usche Brandy
🌞when I sat by the fire with Mohamed Soliman on New Year's Eve,
🌞when Lali Chochia made a fire and burned the notes that said what we wanted to leave behind
And again and again the incomparable light of ...
It has brought me back again an again for 16 years.
