When the wise men came to honor Jesus, they didn’t arrive with toys or baby necessities. They brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh each gift rich with meaning.
Gold was a gift fit for a king. It proclaimed Jesus’ royalty. Long before a crown of thorns ever touched His head, heaven declared Him King.
Frankincense was used in temple worship. It represented prayer, priesthood, and intercession. Jesus was not only born a King,He was born our Great High Priest, the one who would stand between God and humanity.
But myrrh carries the heaviest message. It was used for burial and embalming. It wasn’t a joyful gift; it was a funeral spice.
From the very beginning, Jesus’ death was already in view. Before the cross, before the suffering, before the tomb, God allowed a quiet prophecy to be laid at His feet:
This child was born to give His life.
Even the gifts told the story of the Gospel.
