I love Mondays!

I think that’s a good marker of how much you like your life. I have heard it so many times from people “I hate Mondays…”. They live for the weekends and drink to sooth and forget, and then it’s time to rinse and repeat.

I mean I get it. I used to work at a job that made me want to just 🔫 myself, because I hated it so much. Monday was a day that marked, I have to do this again for 5 days straight, slowly killing me from the inside.

I made the change and quit. I decided that no matter what happens, it’s going to be better than this. Even though it’s risky, but also staying in this situation is a risk. So I decided to go without any signs of what will happen.

I found myself on a job I actually liked. I started to enjoy life way more and I was happy, calm and content. I get to do things that I enjoy, and people are happy to pay me for it.

Now, Mondays are just another chance to do things that I actually enjoy. I get a new week filled with things that I love to do. Sure weekends are nice and I enjoy them as well, but Monday is always a fresh start to do all those things again, and that’s why Mondays are great!

ILLCS Winter 2025

We head out in Hannover yesterday. Four fighters stepped on the mats and brought back two silver medals! 🥈🥈

fought four very tight matches. Good situations and a lot of movement in all of them, didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. He got one nice Toe Hold counter leg lock finish as well. Sadly didn’t make it all the way, but fought really well, with most fights going into overtime.

Juan fought his way into the bronze match, but sadly lost that one. He fought really well especially for training even less than a year. Had one beautiful RNC win and went to overtime in the other ones. Had good chances to win in all matches, so with a few changes could have gone all the way.

who was already undersized for -64kg, went up to -70kg, so that she would get more than one match. She was getting sick two days before, but was just good enough to not cancel. She fought three tough matches, got a beatiful triangle finish and went into overtime also in the other matches. Only losing to the winner of the division, who was clearly bigger than her, she still came close to a RNC finish. Finishing in her first athletic competition ever, after 1 year of jiu-jitsu, in second place 🥈

Martin had two matches, winning his first by submission. The final went into overtime, he had a close armbar, but the oppopnent managed to slip away and escape faster. Finishing in 2nd place at Masters 🥈

This was only second time for people on our team to compete, so I’m very happy with the results. Everyone has got so much better in just one year of training, that it was amazing to see them perform.

One thing that was very great to see how calm everyone was under pressure. Even in bad situations, they kept their cool, and systematically started to fight their way out.

It’s cool to experience the highs and lows of the competition from the coach role as well. I think I will try to get back on the mats as well myself next year.

Thanks for the team members who just came to support and for taking the pics and videos!

UFC 322 was a historical night with two champ coming up a weight class, to try and get a second belt. One was successful, the other was not. Most times the lighter class champ has reigned supreme, but this time it seemed too much for Weili.

Great night of fights again, great performances, surprises, finishes and dominance. All that you can ask for. This is why I love fighting and have been into a rabbit hole in since seeing TUF 1, all those years ago.

All the other sports can’t compare. Fighting is brutal, tough, honest, hard physically and mentally like nothing else. Everyone who steps into a cage, to the mats etc. is to be treated with utmost respect. It’s a journey like no other. But it teaches you the skills to get through anything in life.

ASC BJJ is 1 years and 2 months old!

When we started we started everything from scratch. We didn’t have basically any members, and only few more experienced people. I had a vision, what I think is a good plan forward to create long term success and great athletes, but no real proof of how it will work out.

Now we are constantly growing and we are developing a good core group of 15-20 people, more who come less often. I believe certain things could help us grow even faster, but some things are out of my control.

The amount of improvement that our members have made is insane. In the beginning, since most were beginners, it looked pretty chaotic. But now, we have people who have done BJJ for about a year, some way less, and the level of the room is raising very rapidly.

I have heard about a saying that “truly concentrating on a specific task for 5 years, with smart plans, can make you world class”. I was maybe a bit skeptical before, even though a had fate in it, now I can see it.

We have people that at white belt, are doing many things better, than I have seen higher belts in some places. Of course every gym has their outliers, but I feel like that we grow really well as a group. Both the more experienced grapplers and the newbies are getting so much better.

I’m very excited to see how good people will be, after we have more time to develop!

Held a seminar back in Finland at

Focused on my opinion the most underdeveloped aspect of BJJ, the standing game. Most teach students just a takedown and hope they land it.

Many will shoot 30 times and get guillotined 28 and then will say, nah I pull guard. Leaving them discouraged to actually wrestle.

I think learning to be defensively responsible (forces the other one use real setups), the basics of gripping and motion, what are the main ways to setup your attacks is number one priority.

After that, you can combine them with any takedown you want. I prefer low effort, high control takedowns, since the takedown itself doesn’t score, holding them down does.

If you want to book me for more seminars, just DM me and we’ll set it up 🤙🏼

The time of the grappler is back!

We just saw Khamzat Chimaev absolutely dominate DDP for 25min straight. Probably the most one sided championship fight in the UFC ever. He did it with elite grappling skills.

We are seeing multiple weight classes being dominated with grapplers. Jack Della, Islam Makhachev, Merab Dvalishvili, Alexandre Pantoja, Kayla Harrison and now Khamzat. There are many other notable mentions who are raising the ranks.

All of them have the capability to dictate the direction of the fight. They want to keep it standing, they will stuff all the takedowns and the other one is forced to stand. If they want to take it to the ground, they take their opponent down. If you can choose which favors you over your opponent, you are in a great place.

The other great thing about elite grappling, is the certainty of outcome. Striking is more fast paced and chaotic things can happen. Grappling takes more time, but gives more predictable outcomes.

Systematized grappling makes it easy to be a step ahead of your opponent and it’s exhausting for them to defend. DDP even said after the fight “He felt like a wet blanket. It seemed like he always knew my next move and took it away”.

As much fun it is to knock people out in spectacular fashion, it doesn’t matter how great your striking is, if you get put on your ass. Sean O’Malley is one of the best strikers in the UFC, but he could not use it, when Merab was wiping the floor with him.

Learn both striking and grappling. But grappling gives you better potential to force the fight where you want it to be.

Skills vs Attributes Vol 2

Great skills, combined with good strategies, will take away your opponents attributes.

I have been able to control men way bigger and stronger than me. Why? Because I put them into a position where they can’t use their strength. You can also create movement, that forces them to react, through that they will get exhausted, and their strength goes out the window.

Someone is faster than you? Or more flexible and mobile? Control them, pin them to the mat and see how their speed doesn’t aid them. You control their hips and suddenly the mobility won’t help them.

Their reaction time is faster than yours? Overflow them with possibilities and force them to react, until their nervous system becomes fatigued.

The great Georges St-Pierre is a good example of this, especially with his fights with BJ Penn. Everyone was saying how BJ was so flexible, has a crazy guard that no one has passed in competition.

Some in GSP’s camp were saying, that he needs to get more flexible and avoid going to ground with Penn. It was John Danaher who said “No, we are going to neutralize his flexibility, and pass his guard.” In the match, GSP passed BJ Penn 7 times and did most of the damage by ground & pound.

On the second fight, GSP knew BJ had the fastest reaction time in the UFC. He spent the first round fainting like crazy, overwhelming BJ with potential attacks. 2nd round BJ starts to slow down, GSP starts to land, taking over the match completely.

In both cases, it was not that GSP success came from him improving his attributes during the fight camp. He mastered skills to shut down his opponents strengths. That’s why he is one of the greatest of all time.

Invest heavily in your skills. Attributes are nice, but skills conquers all!

Skills vs. Attributes:

Your ability to perform moves depends on two factors: knowledge and physical ex*****on. Both are essential, but which is more critical for your development? Which offers the best return on investment (ROI) for improving your overall performance?

It never hurts to be stronger, more durable, enduring, mobile, agile, or explosive. However, you must identify your sport and prioritize the attributes it demands most.

For example, MMA and BJJ differ significantly. Many assume they share the same requirements, but MMA demands dynamic, explosive movements and fast-paced energy, a whole combination of things. BJJ emphasizes isometric strength and endurance.

You must train each attribute separately, but since time is limited, this reduces the time available for other training. Therefore, you must strategically allocate your energy and manage fatigue.

There are many types of skills excluding your technical knowledge. There is speed of decision-making, confidence under pressure, information retaining, and applying techniques in live settings.

In my opinion, training your skillset yields a significantly better ROI for performance. Skills give you more tools to use, and they enhance efficiency, which translates to improved endurance. For example, even an Olympic runner would tire quickly in wrestling, just as a wrestler will struggle in a marathon.

Training skills is less physically taxing, allowing practice outside the gym and more frequent sessions. It also sharpens decision-making. In fights, where outcomes can shift in a split second, speed is key.

That said, strength and size always matter, which is why martial arts have weight classes. However, during a fight camp, gaining slight strength offers less advantage against an opponent of similar size compared to mastering a new skill, which can significantly influence the fight’s outcome.
