MOVIVA®: An additional treatment after ESG?

“The patients still had hunger feelings all the time. That’s why we decided to do Gastric Mucosal Ablation (GMA) in the fundus on patients who had undergone an ESG (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty) six months prior but had reached a weight loss plateau despite exercising and building muscle. The goal: reduce cravings and help them continue their weight loss journey,” stated Dr Carlos Marra-López, UNIDEO servicios médicos, Málaga, Spain.

The GMA procedure was performed using the hybrid instrument MOVIVA®. The instrument combines needle-free, high-pressure injection of a submucosal fluid cushion that protects deeper tissue layers with superficial thermal ablation of the mucosa using argon plasma coagulation (APC). The procedure reduces the production of ghrelin, the so-called hunger hormone, resulting in less hunger and fewer cravings.

Why is innovation in GI endoscopy worth witnessing firsthand?
Because seeing it in action live is where technology meets clinical impact.

Last week, Erbe participated in the LIII National Meeting of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (AMEG) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Our team was present with a dedicated booth and contributed to live demonstrations of ESD and POEM procedures using the HybridKnife and HybridKnife Flex.

These sessions highlighted the precision, efficiency, and versatility of our advanced endoscopic tools in real clinical scenarios.

The 6th Bariatric Endoscopy Live Global Event (BELG) is currently streaming and brings together leading international experts in bariatric endoscopy.

The day began with a live case from Prague, Czech Republic, where Dr. Jan Kral performed an Gastric Mucosal Ablation (GMA) of the fundus combined with endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG).

This was followed by a recorded case from Hong Kong.
Dr. Philip Chiu and Dr. Stephen NG carried out another gastric fundus mucosal ablation (GMA) using hybrid technology. The case demonstrated the application of advanced energy and injection methods in the context of endoscopic obesity management..

We are now looking forward to the upcoming session from São Paulo at 18:00 CEST.
Dr. Diogo Moura will perform another GMA procedure as a stand-alone treatment. The session will be moderated by Dr. Roberta Maselli, among others.

Additional cases today include TORe with interrupted sutures and ESD-TORe for revision after RYGB.

Is one instrument enough for both upper and lower GI ESD?

HYBRIDknife® flex is coming to Japan! It will be introduced to the Japanese market at the 1st JGES International Congress in Tokyo. We will be on-site, sharing a booth with our long-standing partner AMCO.

At the 1st JGES International Congress in Tokyo, an expert-led session will discuss the use of hybrid knives with integrated water-jet technology for ESD procedures in different anatomical regions.

Speakers Norio Fukami and Yutaka Saito will present clinical insights on the HYBRIDknife® flex for upper and colore**al ESD, with moderation by Horst Neuhaus.

💧 The Power of Water at DEST 2025

Our symposium “The Power of Water” at the Annual Meeting of the Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan (DEST 2025) brought together an interactive audience eager to explore how underwater techniques are transforming clinical practice.

With insightful talks from our expert speakers, participants gained valuable perspectives on maintaining a “bubble-free” clear view during underwater procedures, enhancing visualization and supporting efficient, precise resections.
