A healthy diet should contain a small amount of unsaturated fats while limiting saturated and trans fats. Most people consume more saturated fat than necessary.

Choosing the right types and amounts of fat can reduce your risk of arthritis, decrease inflammation, and support a healthy body weight.

Here are some guidelines to help you consume healthy and less fats:

~ Limit or avoid ‘invisible’ fats found in foods like biscuits, cakes, chocolate, pastries, and savoury snacks,save them for special occasions and always check food labels for hidden fats.

~ choose lean cuts of meat, which contain less saturated fat, and always trim off any excess fat
~ Choose fish and poultry more often
~ use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk
~ Use low-or reduced-fat dairy products (for example yogurt, low-fat cheese)
~ Use low-fat, olive-oil- or soya-based margarines
~ Grill instead of frying
~ Use a very small amount of olive oil if you need to for cooking (if you want to fry foods, use rapeseed oil, which smokes less)
~ Fill up on wholegrain breads, cereals, fruits and vegetables
~ Look for snacks that are naturally low in fat, such as fruit, vegetable sticks or plain popcorn - small amounts of nuts and seeds provide good fats but don’t appear to cause weight gain.

Following a healthy diet might also reduce the amount of arthritis medications you need to take.

🍓🍒🍉The basic idea is to eat less fat, less sugar, more fruit and vegetables, more oily fish and plenty of calcium and iron-rich foods.

You will probably find that everyone wants to give you advice on what to eat and what not to eat.

‼️‼️Remember that everyone reacts differently to specific foods and that you have to work out for yourself what suits you best.

Every individual has unique nutritional requirements, depending on your age, gender, body size and level of activity.

Doctors or nutritionist use the body mass index (BMI) to tell if your weight is within a healthy range.

Therefore, sometimes they also use waist circumterence measurements to decide whether people are of a healthy weight. People with a waist circumference of more than 80cm/32 inches (women) and 94cm/37 inches (men) are considered to be at increased risk of health problems.
