Moving to a new country can be exciting, but it can also bring emotional challenges we don’t always expect.

For many expat spouses, relocation can mean rebuilding routines, adjusting to a new culture, navigating uncertainty, and sometimes feeling a little disconnected from familiar support systems.

These experiences are more common than we often talk about.

On 21 March, Green Door’s psychotherapist Meghna Sckerl will be facilitating an in-person workshop with the Pillion Expats community on:

The end of this year doesn’t feel tidy. Not relief, or sadness, just shaped by things we didn’t really get to choose.

If you’re an expat, that shows up in small ways: making your own rødkål, blending traditions that don’t quite belong anywhere, or figuring out whether visiting family is worth the flight costs.

One of our small anchors this season was seeing The Julekalender in Tivoli. It’s a family favourite, partly because our family is mixed, and partly because it gets what it’s like to live between cultures, with all the humour, misunderstandings, and little compromises that come with it.

Poet Michael Symmons Roberts wrote in his christmas poem this year:
“The world still cries war, and acts on it.”

It’s blunt and so true about world politics right now. But it’s also about light: being able to see clearly, care, and keep going without collapsing.

As the year ends, I’m wishing you a bit of mental space, some moments of clarity, and a little steadiness wherever you are.

As we head into vote day tomorrow, I’m thinking about the many internationals who call Denmark home and the real challenges they navigate every day.

In my work as a psychotherapist for internationals, I see firsthand how things like:

• navigating complex systems in a new language

• difficulty accessing healthcare or mental health support

• uncertainty around residency, jobs, and long-term stability

• loneliness and social isolation

• feeling “outside” Danish social life

…can deeply impact well-being, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

These experiences are real, and they matter.

My hope is that we continue moving toward a Denmark where internationals feel included, supported, and valued in daily life, not just in conversations around elections.

🍁 Anyone else swapping rowing oars for page-turners and saunas this month? 😄🍁

November is here, and with it comes the shift from long summer days to cozy winter routines. 🕯️❄️

For me, that means indoor rowing, book club evenings, and a splash in the winter bathing club, little rituals that keep me grounded, energized, and thriving through the short, dark days. 🌊💛

Sometimes life can feel like “rowing against the current.” MCT gently helps you change how you relate to your thoughts bringing back calm, clarity, and confidence. 🌿

If you’re new here - hi, and thanks for stopping by! I’m Meghna, a psychotherapist based in Denmark, working with adults who want to break free from anxiety, overthinking, and emotional overwhelm using Metacognitive Therapy (MCT).

MCT is a modern, evidence-based approach that focuses less on what you think, and more on how you relate to your thoughts. It’s especially helpful for those feeling stuck in constant mental noise or worry.

🌿 Still in Indonesia and reflecting on something I keep noticing here 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌏

I’ve met so many mixed couples raising children across multiple languages and cultures. It’s not always easy. Different values, parenting styles, languages. But what really stands out is the closeness of these families and how beautifully their kids adapt. Curious, flexible, emotionally aware.

It’s deepened my belief that mixed families, when supported, can be some of the strongest and most resilient. Blending cultures isn’t just complex. It’s powerful. And needed.

Back in Denmark, I work as a psychotherapist supporting international and cross-cultural families. If you’re navigating identity, stress, or the mental load of raising a family between worlds, you’re not alone.

I offer Metacognitive Therapy to help with overthinking, overwhelm, and finding more clarity in everyday life.
