HAPPY DIWALI 🪔 all yogis and light seekers. Today is Diwali, the Festival of Lights and a wonderful time to reflect on the symbolism of this ancient celebration through the lens of our yoga practice. Diwali signifies the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. In yogic terms, this echoes the journey from avidya (ignorance) to vidya (knowledge), illuminating the path to inner peace and awakening.
In yoga, we recognize the inner light within each of us, often referred to as our Atman or inner self. Much like the oil lamps (diyas) we light during Diwali, each breath and movement we practice in yoga brings us closer to revealing that divine light. As we move through asanas, practice pranayama, and quiet the mind, we clear away layers of accumulated karma and negative patterns, allowing our inner light to shine brighter.
🕯️Here’s 3 Practices to Awaken Your Inner Light
In the spirit of Diwali, here are some mindful practices to reconnect with your inner radiance:
1. 🌬️ PRANAYAMA - Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
This gentle breathing practice helps purify the subtle channels (nadis) and balances the body’s energy flow, symbolizing the balance between light and dark. Practicing Nadi Shodhana during Diwali is a beautiful way to align with the energy of renewal and clarity.
2. 🧘🏽♀️MEDITATION - Visualizing Your Inner Flame
Close your eyes and visualize a flame in the heart center. Imagine this flame growing brighter and more radiant, clearing any negativity and lighting your path toward self-discovery. This meditation can help you cultivate an inner sense of peace and light, echoing Diwali’s symbolic essence.
3. ❤️ HEART-OPENING ASANAS - Ustrasana (Camel Pose) & Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)
Heart-openers are powerful for expanding our capacity to give and receive love, an important theme during Diwali. By focusing on your heart center, these poses encourage us to embrace compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude.
Wishing you a Diwali filled with peace, prosperity, and boundless light.
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti ✌🏾
With love,
