Out in the community where healthcare matters most 🇩🇴

Today, our students went door-to-door in underserved neighborhoods in the Dominican Republic, bringing essential care directly to families who need it.

They provided:
• Blood pressure screenings
• Blood glucose testing
• Personalized health education
• Prescriptions when clinically appropriate

This is what global health looks like in action — meeting people where they are, building trust, and addressing real barriers to care.

For many of our students, this is the moment everything clicks. Medicine becomes human. Public health becomes personal. And purpose becomes clear.

White coats. Scrubs. Real medicine.

Day 1 of the Global Health Leaders medical internship and our students are already stepping into the maternity ward at the hospital in Punta Cana. Today they observed two C-sections and one delivery, witnessing the very first moments of three new lives entering the world.

This is what global health education should look like. Not simulations. Not hypothetical case studies. Real physicians, real patients, real healthcare systems, and the chance to learn how medicine is practiced in different parts of the world.

For many students, the delivery room is where it all becomes real. The responsibility. The humanity. The privilege of being part of healthcare.

And this is just the beginning of the week.

From student to published researcher.

Students in our Global Health Leaders research program recently published a medical case study in the peer-reviewed journal Cureus, analyzing a complex clinical case from the Dominican Republic.

Even more exciting, the article is now indexed in PubMed through the National Library of Medicine, meaning the research is visible to physicians and scientists worldwide.

This is the kind of experience that can transform a student’s path toward medicine, public health, and biomedical research.

Through our research programs, students work alongside physician mentors to:

• analyze real clinical cases
• conduct medical literature reviews
• write scientific manuscripts
• submit research to peer-reviewed journals
