Cuando ve que los romanos o sus compañeros galos (sobre todo, Obélix) arrancan árboles, Ideafix no duda en expresar su indignación con una gran variedad de protestas y ladridos. Para él, no existe nada más intolerable que la destrucción de la naturaleza.🌱

Los prejuicios por raza y tamaño en los perros son muy, MUY reales.
Y también son completamente injustos.

❌ Los perros pequeños son "llorones y molestos" 🙄
❌ Los perros grandes son "agresivos y peligrosos" 😨

Muchos perros, sin importar su tamaño, son malinterpretados solo por la forma en que vocalizan. La diferencia muchas veces no es la emoción que sienten, sino el volumen con el que la expresan.

Un perro pequeño con ansiedad, problemas para regular sus emociones o miedo suele ser ignorado porque su comportamiento nos afecta menos físicamente. Pero eso no significa que no esté sufriendo. Está en angustia, lo está demostrando y muchas veces no le prestamos atención.

Por otro lado, un perro grande con esos mismos problemas es rápidamente catalogado como "agresivo" o con un "mal carácter". Si ladra, se abalanza o gruñe, rara vez pensamos en ansiedad; en cambio, se le tacha de peligroso.

En redes sociales se ve esta diferencia todo el tiempo. Un perro pequeño mostrando los dientes o lanzando mordidas al aire es "gracioso" o "tierno". Pero ¿cuántas veces vemos que a un perro grande se le perciba igual en una situación similar?

Todos podemos tener prejuicios, es parte de la naturaleza humana. Pero muchas veces, esas ideas equivocadas solo refuerzan mitos injustos que perjudican a los perros una y otra vez. 💔

Breed bias and stereotyping by size is very...VERY real.
It is also wholly and totally unfair.
Small dogs are "yappy and obnoxious" 🙄
Large dogs are "aggressive and mean" 😨
Both large and small can be totally misjudged because they vocalise and often the only difference is volume, yet their emotions which lead to those vocalisations can be exactly the same.
A small dog that is struggling with anxiety, emotional regulation and fear can be ignored because their size can mean WE are impacted less by their behaviour.
That is totally unfair to these dogs.... they are in distress.
They are showing it.
We are ignoring their emotional well being.

Take a larger dog....struggling with those same issues.
We can immediately view this as aggression.
They are thought of as having a "mean streak".
Anxiety is often not thought of at all for a larger dog barking, lunging and even growling.
In smaller dogs this is often viewed as "funny" or "cute", social media is proof of how society views these differences...very few people view a larger dog snarling, lunging or air snapping as "cute 🥰"
We can all have biases, it's human nature to have them...but many times they are from wrongly held beliefs that do nothing but perpetuate these myths, over and over again.

When your dog chews on a raw recreational bone🦴, especially a meaty one🍖 with cartilage and soft tissue still attached, their teeth🦷 get the equivalent of a good brushing and flossing, but they’re doing the work, not you. In fact, one study found offering dogs raw bones removed the majority of plaque🪥 and tartar from the molars and the first and second premolars in less than three days!

Sadly, there are dogs in this world that will never get to enjoy the good chew of a bone🦴 due to a behavior called resource guarding, which can be one of the most challenging behaviors to manage in dogs. Whether your dog is becoming possessive over their food, raw meaty bones, or toys, or reacting defensively to a situation out of fear, these behaviors can lead to stressful and potentially dangerous situations. The good news is that they can be managed with the right training techniques.
