Let’s talk about turmeric!
It’s one of my favorite spices to cook with to add flavor and color to a dish, but it’s also one of my go-to ingredients when I’m feeling a bit under-the-weather.
It’s a subterranean rhizome (underground stem) that is most recognized in it’s bright orange powder form. In addition to cooking, it is widely used for it’s medicinal compound, curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties. Fresh turmeric is one of the main ingredients in the Crimson Fire Cider, giving the infusion an extra immune boost. It steeps for at least four weeks, getting all of those beneficial properties out of it!
If you have dried turmeric on hand and are looking to make an anti-inflammatory tea, you can mix together turmeric powder (or grated fresh turmeric), coconut oil and a pinch of black pepper in hot water. Add raw honey for some extra sweetness!
