Bedtime Procrastination Linked to Personality Traits
A study involving 390 young adults found that bedtime procrastination is not simply about laziness or poor time management.
Instead, it appears closely linked to personality traits such as neuroticism, low conscientiousness, and reduced extraversion.
Even after adjusting for participants' natural sleep preferences, these associations held strong.
Emotional patterns associated with depression—including a lack of joy and heightened negative feelings—were common among those who delayed bedtime.
The findings point toward emotional dysregulation as a possible root cause.
Targeting mood and emotional health may be a promising direction for addressing widespread sleep delays.
