History

• The Academic Department of Surgery was established as a surgical laboratory unit in 1987 and today its man power is 37 persons (19 high qualifications MD & FRCS).
• Thanks to Prof A Al-Garem, M Refaet and M El-Batanoni who supported the strong reforms from 1984 till 1989 that put the foundation which was led by our Ex Head Department Prof Nagui Edward Mikhail until 2004.
• Over the last 25-30 years the department has built up a good reputation and expertise that provides an excellent good quality service in the different sub-specialities of general surgery
• The department has contributed strongly both internally, externally and on national, regional and international level by providing an excellent service with basic and higher training surgical programs.
• The department has built up an awarded research experience in general and experimental surgery.
