Can getting COVID-19 affect your pelvic health?
If you develop a cough as a symptom, the answer is YES. Why? Because coughing damages our pelvic floor. The studies show that coughing creates even greater pressure on our pelvic floor than most sports activities. Having a prolonged cough can have quite a negative effect on your pelvic floor and lead to incontinence symptoms.
What can you do? First of all - treat the cough. The sooner it’s gone the better. Secondly, every time you cough try to contract pelvic floor muscles so they are ready for the impact. Last but not least, do strengthening exercises for the pelvic floor - the stronger your muscles are, the better they function. Stay healthy and may your pelvic floor be strong!
