Keep Steve, Dave and Lucky alive. Three 1 week old abandoned kittens need your help! They were so tiny, with umbilical cords still attached and their eyes tightly closed. Rachel :) xoxo

Rachel Manns and Dani Connor are fundraising to save their little buddies they found and cared for, please read full description! Whilst on holiday in Madrid this week visiting my lovely friend Dani, we found three stray kittens covered in filth under a car. After advice from the vets and special kitten milk acquired, medicine for their digestion and a special thermometer, we began the epic four day journey of constant care...

That stage in a kitten's life is crucial for survival and they're supposed to be with their mother for the first 10 weeks. Upon learning from the vet that they were only 5 days old, we were terrified we wouldn't be able to keep them alive. We were feeding the exact guide amount heated to the correct temperature every two hours through a needle-less syringe, then burping them, then rubbing their tummies to help with gas, then stimulating their private area to make them go to the toilet, and then cleaning them! This whole process for three kittens took about an hour, and in an hours time it had to happen all over again. If they settled then you could steal some sleep, and if not you had to have them near you to keep them warm and comforted. On top of that, every twelve hours we were taking their temperatures and inserting special medicine into their tiny little bottoms! The broken sleep killed me! Shivering in 35 degree heat, nausea, nosebleeds, headaches, tummy problems...

We managed to increase their core temperatures, move them on to being bottle fed and get them going to the toilet regularly. In the meantime we tried to get them re-homed in shelters all over Madrid, but everyone we spoke to refused due to saturation or the fact they were so young and without a mother. It became apparent that the places that would take them would euthanize them, and that obviously wasn't the solution we were after. We tried to re-home them privately, but we couldn't find anyone who could provide the 24/7 care these little guys needed. We also had some amazing people coming to help us out! It was wonderful to have an extra pair on hands helping us out, and great to be able to catch an extra hours sleep hear and there, or to have lunch made for you, or just the washing up done! Thank you so much Sandra, Ana, Hans & Alicia! Then four days later, after sobbing tears and a meltdown, terrified that we hadn't kept them healthy enough, and a realization that it was impossible for us to do it anymore, we took them to this amazing 24 hour veterinary hospital. They saw all three and said how well we'd done, they were perfectly healthy! They also admitted them and are now providing them with the constant and professional care they'll need for as long as we can afford to keep them in until they're old enough for adoption. It's costing us €28.00 (£22.50) per night for them to be there, and we've got the next two or so weeks covered; but if anyone wanted to help us out with anything you can that would be wonderful!!!! Our aim is to keep them in there for the next 10 weeks (the time that they would be with their Mother naturally). I've set up a new bank account for donations and can provide donators with an invoice with a donation number and a certificate acknowledging your contribution! Anything anyone can give no matter how small would be absolutely amazing! To make a donation either message me on here, or email me at rachel@rachelmanns.com and I'll give you the account details :). Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to sharing the little guys progress with you all!

Just so's you all know, Lucky was finally adopted by one of Damons work buddies. He rescued his first cat and hand-reared him, and when he heard about Lucky he jumped at the chance to get a new liddle friend! Will post pics of them together when I get a chance - wahey!

My phone has been overloaded by amazing so I thought I'd share!

Another update! Steve got rehomed today after we received a phone call from one of the vets who wanted a kitten. He and all of the staff at the clinic have helped us so so much these last 4 weeks and we really can't thank them enough. And again, whilst I'm really really sad to see Steve go too, I know he's going to live a fantastic life with Jesús (er, not "Jesus" Jesus) and his family. Yay for Steve and Jesús!

So after posting some adverts and emailing numerous websites, an amazing couple contacted us asking if they could not only foster but adopt a kitten, to make friends (when he's ready) with the young cat that they already have. As upsetting it was to say goodbye to Dave today, I'm so happy in the knowledge he has been re-homed with awesome people to live a super fortunate life, and not one on the streets. We'll definitely miss you Dave!

The kittens came home last night (Tues 10th), as today they're going to a foster mummy in the north of Madrid! She can only look after them for a maximum of 2 months, but we're very very fortunate to have found her when we did. Also - look at their amazing little eyes!

UPDATE: Steve and Lucky both have their eyes open!!! Ahhhh they're amazing! Dave needs eye drops to help him open his but he'll get there soon - pictures shortly!

Going to see the kittens again tomorrow wheeey. Hoping that we'll have at least one set of tiny eyes open, I don't think I can wait any longer! Also, absolutely any help with donations would be so so fantastic! Please help if you can!

Just a little update - I went back to the vets again today to check up on the kittens and pay for their stay for the next 4 days. The pictures are courtesy of my mobile phone and I apologize for the awful awful quality. Anyway!
Steve, Dave and Lucky are doing really well and are growing/turning into little chubsters at such a rate I almost can't believe it. To think we found the same kittens just over a week ago when they were tiny, and now they're the same size as my hand is just crazy (but that's what eating every 2 hours and having 24 hour care available to you can do!) It's so good to see them beginning to be playful now as well, not only are they washing each other, they are rolling around and climbing over themselves and nibbling and cuddling as if they are aware now.. It's awesome!
Today I was fortunate enough to see Lucky wee everywhere straight after he'd eaten, but all by himself, completely unprovoked too! We'd only just worked out how to help them p*e less than a week ago, so to see him doing it on his own is absolutely fantastic and so exciting!
Even though all 3 are yet to open their eyes, they are all completely umbilical cord-free and when I saw their ears twitching and moving just now I got all excited again - I think that means they are starting to hear things, but don't quote me on that because I'm not a vet and google tells me different things..

Thankyou all so much for helping us, be it by liking and sharing our page, or if you are donating too then me and Rachel are so, so grateful!! Thankyou everyone for all of the help and the kind messages we are recieving, I cannot thankyou enough!

They're doing really really well! Feeding and toileting lots and getting bigger and stronger, and they're being very vocal which is a good sign :). Their eyes are close to opening, we can't wait to see them when they are! To make a donation please email me at rachel@rachelmanns.com. Thank you!
