Healthy Mays

Healthy Mays I was once a very different person to who I am today. The joy I was looking for was already inside me, I just had to find it. With love,

Gut health nutritionist, naturopath with a functional medecine approach working 1-1 with clients to transform their health

Transformational magical retreat leader & yoga, breathwork, meditation teacher & reiki master/quantum energy healer It was 2011 and I had built a successful career in advertising, whilst, numbing myself to the stresses of life with a typical London hedonistic lifestyle. I wa

s unaware that what I was really seeking was what yogis call ‘samadhi’ - a state of eternal bliss deep inside us all. I was always into yoga but never committed to a daily regular practise. One day, however, I was lying in savasna, at the end of a gruelling bikram class, when I heard a voice inside my head. It told me that yoga was my entry point to the joy I had been seeking, and I needed to go to India to deepen my learnings. I immediately enrolled in a beginners ashtanga course at Gingi Li’s Ashtanga Shala, in Clapham North, learning the fundamentals from the first of

many inspiring teachers. I woke up at 6am everyday to practise mysore style ashtanga and six months later, I quit my advertising job and flew to Goa, India to take part in a month long Ashtanga Yoga teacher training course. In India I was reborn through the healing powers of yoga. I graduated from my class, and was immediately offered a job teaching yoga in Goa. The universe was giving me clear signs! Over the next five years I spent my summers in London and winters in India and Thailand - gaining my 500 hour advanced TTC in ashtanga as well as my Reiki Master whilst teaching & learning esoteric practises in the east. My life changed when I listened to that little voice in my head, which I now see as my higher power guiding me and I realised that you can find the peace you are seeking internally through meditation and spiritual practises, a very valuable and transformational lesson. I learnt the meaning of self-care and self-love and slowly yet steadily I grew, physically, emotionally, spiritually into the person I am today. I was always an avid cook but through my winters in Asia, my interests grew massively in health and nutrition dabbling in veganism and raw veganism for many years. A huge part of my healing journey was related to food and diet, removing gluten, diary, processed foods & meat to heal severe digestive issues including IBS as well as skin issues like urticaria & attending many fasting/detox retreats. This avid interest in the healing powers of nature led me to 3 years of diploma study at College of Naturopathic Nutrition (CNM) graduating as a Naturopathic Nutritionist. The nutrition course also made me investigate my own nutrition, realising after 6 years of veganism that this diet was not working for me. I found that I was deficient in many micronutrients, along with thyroid and adrenal issues exacerbated by large amounts of stress caused by my career in advertising. Using functional medecine testing including nutrigenetics finally helped me to realise that veganism did not serve me and led me to the genuine realisation that there is no one diet that works for everyone, we are all unique individuals with different nutritional needs based on our ancestry, environment and experiences. My experiences and experimentations with different dietary models means that I can help both vegans and non-vegans alike make their way to optimum health and nutrition. I also work with clients to find and maintain optimal weight, healing their relationships with food and helping clients to see that weight loss does not need to include fad restrictive diets but more of a lifestyle change towards healthier eating & living. And having had a history of childhood disordered eating which I used many tools to heal, I recently completed the National Centre for Eating Disorder training to further assist my weight loss clients with healthier relationships to food. As well as that having experienced and healed my gut issues, gut health is another specialism of mine working to heal IBS, reflux, IBD and many complex gut issues. As well as female hormonal balancing in terms of perimenopause and menopause and thyroid issues amongst other complex cases. I passionately believe in the healing power of nature and now work with an integrative approach to nutrition and healthcare, incorporating the whole person and providing an overall holistic wellness offering. I believe that you must heal the mind alongside diet & lifestyle changes, you cannot fix one without the other. Through my experiences and studies I can help individuals heal holistically through one to one nutrition consultations, guided meditations, yoga lessons, pranayama or reiki healing. There's nothing I love more than sharing my knowledge and positive energy to help my clients achieve their goals and heal.

Now, I’ve told you before to stay away from sugar and processed bars because they can wreck your blood sugar and fry your adrenals. I’m putting them in the "once a month" category here because life happens. These are meant to be occasional treats, not a regular part of your diet. If they become a daily crutch, you’re just masking a deeper issue. And if you’re on a deep healing protocol they need to be eliminated until you heal - this is for someone who’s healthy not sick!

☠️ But, if you're doing everything "right" and still feel exhausted, there is usually a hidden drain on your system.

👉🏻 In terms of weekly meat/fish - you can eat them on different days etc and have them a few times a week each just to add to the visuals a little explanation :)

what do you think of my choices?

The UK Government has banned fried foods and sugar in schools!

Finally a step in the right direction for our kids health, given that 1 in 3 kids leave school overweight or obese and no government changes have been made in the last 10 years! Its about time dont you think? As a graduate & nutritional therapist, I think this is great news to celebrate this week.

Here’s what’s changing 👇
🥣 New breakfast standards

Clear rules on what can be served before school, with limits on sugary cereals and a move away from pastries and processed options

🌾 More fibre-focused meals

Wholegrains, pulses and vegetables taking centre stage (including veg with every main meal + more fruit-based desserts)

🚫 Less sugar

Desserts limited and stricter rules on drinks, with a shift towards water, milk and unsweetened options

🍟 Tighter limits on ultra-processed foods

Less deep-fried food, processed meats and heavily refined snacks

This is a really welcome shift, especially the focus on fibre, whole foods and reducing free sugars.

But as always, this is a first step and what happens outside of school is key - ultra processed foods should be banned completely in my opinion so that kids dont even get access to them.

You're not burnt out, you're just tired, right?

You're still showing up at work, still performing your job, still getting results. But something's off, you dont feel quite right, you think youre just a bit tired, but it seems to get worse everyday. And if you really tuned in, deep down you would realise that this isnt how you should be feeling in life...

This is what burnout actually looks like for high performers. Not always a collapse but a slow fade in energy. Continuously running on 60–70% capacity and calling it normal.

Sorry for killing the hype around air fryers 👀

You could say that its a bit “healthier” than deep frying but who still regularly deep fries their food anyway?

3 reasons why air fryers can be toxic:
‌1️⃣ Process of air frying results in the formation of acrylamides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which are linked to causing cancer
2️⃣ Air fryers coated with non stick materials eg teflon which contain PFOA’s & PFA’s - linked to cancer
3️⃣ Cooking at high temps removes essential vitamins and minerals we need to keep healthy

If you already own an air fryer and you are otherwise healthy, using it once in a while is probably ok but if you have health issues especially cancer or any inflammatory conditions/hormone imbalances, I recommend steaming, slow cooking and consuming more raw salads full of antioxidants and life instead of air frying.

✅ Other alternatives are glass air fryers (although I have heard they crack easily) and stainless steel ones or non teflon coated ones.

Just make sure you don’t continuously cook your food at super high temperatures & instead add in lots of organic raw & lightly steamed veggies.

Alfonso came to see me struggling hugely, he had many symptoms of MCAS, with shortness of breath so bad it would wake him up in the middle of the night gasping for air, plus vertigo which meant he couldnt do what he loved which is exercise - it was hugely affecting all areas of his life.

We delved into functional testing with a supplement and diet and lifestyle protocol to support - we actually found that most of the test results were negative and the key focus he needed to work on was balancing his nervous system to allow his body to feel safe and within a few months he had hugely improved, started to exercise and got his life back.

👉 This shows that to heal the body you must heal the mind and this is what i do best with my clients combining the science with the holistic care.

❤️ Thank you alfonso for putting your trust in me! Here’s what he had to say:

“I have worked with Maya for three months, and my situation was really bad. I suffered from heartburn, burning sensations, dyspnea, fatigue, instability, and vertigo. She thoroughly reviewed all the data I had and suggested what I should test next to figure out what was going on with my body. She was so helpful—not only suggesting what I should eat but, more importantly, she suggested how to live properly through meditation, daily steps, being grateful, and breathing exercises.
When you work with Maya, you will change the way you live and you will feel better and more grateful. Highly recommended!” Alfonso, Switzerland

You’re welcome. 😘Saved you hundreds of pounds worth in wasted supplements.

I did many test cases and it got it wrong every time. I have heard this too many times over the last year. Don’t outsource your health to chat gpt ☠️ . Nothing can replace a decade of experience working with thousands of clients.

Chat gpt will never be your coach. You’re worth more my friends….🫶🏻

"I probably care more [about looking good] than 90 percent of the people on this planet," once said. But even for someone with a world-class team, extreme dieting came with a heavy price tag: physical pain & autoimmune flares.

☠️ Leading up to the Met Gala in 2022, Kim’s crash diet to lose 16 pounds in 3 weeks triggered a psoriasis breakout that nearly reached her face and joints. She described the psoriatic arthritis as "freaking her out" because she lost mobility in her hands.

🔴 This is a reminder that our bodies aren't just "mannequins" for clothes—they are complex, living systems. When we starve them of essential fuel (like complex carbs) or subject them to rapid changes, they react.

If you are struggling with an autoimmune condition like psoriasis, "crash dieting" is one of the biggest risks you can take.

My advice?
✅ Focus on anti-inflammatory whole foods.
✅ Prioritise consistency over "quick fixes."
✅ Listen to your bodies signals before they become a flare.

Crash dieting is never the answer, i invite you to show your body the love and compassion it deserves. Weight loss must be handled with care in a slow and steady lifestyle change way.

Have you ever felt the "high cost" of a restrictive diet? Let’s chat in the comments. 👇

Most high functioning women don’t realise they’re heading for burnout… until their body forces them to stop.

Because it doesn’t start with collapse. It actually starts with:
👉🏻 Feeling “tired but wired” at night
👉🏻 Unexplained weight gain
👉🏻 Digestion that suddenly doesn’t cooperate
👉🏻 Doing everything “right” but feeling worse

I see this pattern all the time as an expert nutritionist but I still missed it in myself.

I was building, supporting clients, running retreats…relocating countries, buying, selling flats, fighting with estate agents, accountants, lawyers and completely overriding what my body was telling me.

⭐ Because when you’re high-functioning, burnout doesn’t look like burnout.

It looks like coping. But physiologically? Your nervous system is already under pressure. Especially in perimenopause years you are even more sensitive. And if you don’t intervene early… your body will eventually make you.

✅ This year, my focus isn’t just more productivity. It’s regulation, safety, nourishment. I took time out went to thailand healed my body and invest in therapy support.

So if you’re noticing the early signs — don’t wait for the crash. Take action and reach for help.

Most people say they want to heal…

But when it comes down to it, they delay the very things that would actually change their life.

Not because they’re lazy or incapable, but because they’re waiting to feel ready…or they tell themselves they don’t have the time or money right now. But the problem is the longer they wait, the worse their symptoms get and then whats the actual cost to your life when you burn out and lose months of work or time with loved ones?

Here’s the truth:

The people who actually heal don’t have more time than you.
They don’t suddenly have unlimited money.

They just decide it matters.

So they:
– Take action before they feel ready
– Stay consistent when it’s uncomfortable
– Take responsibility for their patterns
– And invest in the support that actually moves them forward

If you keep waiting for the “perfect time”…you’ll stay in the same cycle.

But if you decide that now matters, then everything starts to shift. I’ve seen this countless of times with the hundreds of clients i’ve helped - the ones that succeed value their health and invest time, money and energy to heal.

If you’re ready to do this properly, DM me “HEAL” and I’ll show you what that can look like x

If you’re focusing on oestrogen levels… but ignoring detox, you’re missing this.

I eat this every day for my oestrogen balance .

Broccoli sprouts are one of the richest sources of sulforaphane. They contain up to 20–50x more sulforaphane precursors than mature broccoli. Meaning you’d need to eat a large serving of broccoli (multiple cups) to get a similar effect to just a small handful of sprouts.

Sulforaphane is a compound that supports:

➡️ Phase II liver detoxification
➡️ Oestrogen metabolism and clearance
➡️ Glutathione production (your body’s key antioxidant)
➡️ Reduction in oxidative stress

Hormone balance is hugely linked to how well your body can process and eliminate oestrogen

When detox pathways aren’t functioning optimally, oestrogen can recirculate causing DNA Damage and leading to oestrogen dominant conditions eg fibroids, endometriosis and even breast cancers

…and that’s when symptoms also show up.

➡️ PMS
➡️ Bloating
➡️ Breast tenderness / sore b***s
➡️ Hormonal acne
➡️ Heavy or irregular periods
➡️ Mood swings
➡️ Fluid retention

This is why I focus on supporting detox pathways through targeted nutrition — not just adding more supplements.

✅ Simple.
✅ Functional.
✅ Effective.

If you want to go deeper my online detox programme is a fast track for hormone balance & liver cleansing - next group 14-24 April

This happens when you take 3g of glycine.

Your brain shifts out of fight-or-flight.
Your nervous system starts calming down.

Your body moves toward deeper sleep and recovery.

Now combine it with magnesium.

Magnesium relaxes the nervous system.
Glycine tells the brain it’s safe to slow down.

Together they help:

➡️ Calm the mind
➡️ Relax muscles
➡️ Improve sleep quality
➡️ Support collagen and recovery
➡️ Reduce nervous system stress

Sometimes the most powerful tools are the simplest.

Mays totally lives and breaths the Healthy Mays lifestyle and has done for the last 8 years living holistically in tune with nature and the elements with a daily meditation and yoga practise. She believes that physical nutrition is totally linked to the mind & soul - they are intertwined and to be in the optimum health you have to look after all 3, mind, body and soul. For Mays that goes from having a daily meditation, breathwork and yoga practise to being predominantly plant based and avoiding eating animals both energetically and to help save our planet. This stands Mays apart from your average nutritionist as she really encorporates an entire holistic offering alongside a functional medicine background helping her clients thrive instead of survive in order to be the best version of themselves in every single way.
