Relapse rates remain high, not because people or treatment centers are failing, but because recovery is often measured too narrowly. Focusing only on abstinence overlooks the wider picture of mental health, safety, relationships, and quality of life.
Recovery is not just about stopping a behavior. It is about resolving underlying causes, addressing the environment, and supporting emotional and psychological well-being. Until outcomes are defined and measured more holistically, it will remain difficult to understand what true recovery really means.
