Not for an easier birth but an easier parent life- looking back at my books for babies and this is one I’ve looked at so many times for my own children and those of friends!

Anytime someone says to me “ they’re being very fussy, crying all the time...not sleeping well...I can’t put them down..they’re feeding more than normal “ the Wonder Week bell goes off in my head.

What are Wonder Weeks? They’re periods of developmental leaps that babies make -10 leaps in the first 20 months of life !
-The first comes at 5 weeks old, which is the world of sensations.
- This book will identify the period just before, during and after when your baby may appear more sensitive.
-It’ll tell you what that mental leap entails ie the world of patterns
-How to encourage each leap forward.
-See the World through your baby’s perspective.
-Help you understand why your baby is acting a certain way and that this to shall pass.

The way the book is structured means it’s so easy to grab, work out how many weeks your baby is and if it correlates to any of the leaps.

If you’re looking for baby gifts with a beneficial long lasting difference this is the one.

Eating six dates a day in pregnancy from week 36 contributes to a faster, easier labour. How so?

📎Date fruit contains saturated and unsaturated fatty acids as which are involved in saving and supplying energy and construction of prostaglandins.
📎In addition, serotonin, tannin, and calcium contribute to the contraction of smooth muscles of the uterus.
📎Date fruit also has a laxative effect, which stimulates uterine contractions.
📎Has an oxytocin-like effect on the body, leading to increased sensitivity of the uterus.
📎Stimulates uterine contractions.
📎Reduces postpartum hemorrhage the way oxytocin does.
📎Not to mention the nutritional benefits!

The evidence? Found at “The effect of late pregnancy consumption of date fruit on labour and delivery O Al-Kuran et al. J Obstet Gynaecol. 2011.”

1. According to this study, women who ate six dates a day for the four weeks leading up to their due date were:

74% more dilated than non-date eaters at admission to birthplace
38% more likely to have intact membranes
21% more likely to spontaneously go into labor
28% less likely to use prostin/oxytocin to induce labor
Additionally, the date eaters had:

77% shorter first stage of labor.

Pass the dates my pretties , it’s snack time.

As I’m in the final weeks of this pregnancy I’ll be sharing some techniques that I’ve used in the past and will be using again which are recommended in prep for a faster, easier labour or to prevent tearing.

First up: Perineal Massage.

What is the Perineum?
📎 The soft skin between the a**s and the va**na.
📎The position you give birth in (lying on your back for example) can put more pressure on this delicate area while pushing your baby out.
📎Not all tears are the same-some are small and heal quickly, others may need stitches and weeks of healing.
📎We can help to prep this area for flexibility and stretching with perineal massage.
📎From 35 weeks every other day, a few minutes at a time. Why not put on your Hypnobirthing tracks and practice your breathing at the same time.
📎You can do the massage yourself or ask your partner to help out. A partner can be easier as they perform the much need stretch and over just a couple of days can feel this area softening. It also helps you get used to relaxing with someone’s hand in your va**na, which if you give your permission could happen for va**nal examinations during labour.

Gently stretching the perineum regularly-every couple of days for a few minutes at a time, should allow the perineum to stretch more easily when the baby’s head is crowning.

It means the baby’s head should come out easier and/or quicker.

You mentally prepare yourself for the stretching and feeling of pressure thus becoming more comfortable with it.

When you know what to expect, you may be less tense and more able to stretch and even enjoy the process !

The evidence: Cochrane April 2013
“The review of four trials (2497 women) showed that perineal massage, undertaken by the woman or her partner (for as little as once or twice a week from 35 weeks), reduced the likelihood of perineal trauma (mainly episiotomies) and ongoing perineal pain. Women should be informed about the benefits of digital antenatal perineal massage.”

You can find instructions on how to perform this correctly on www.kghynobirthing.com, in The Hypnobirthing Book or other online resources.

The best time of year no?

Inspiration for visualizations all around: changing colours up in the trees for our up breathing or falling autumn leaves 🍁 for the down breath. Nature’s got your back.

Normally always have a book in my bag if I’m off somewhere I know I’ll be waiting...ironically at an obstetrician appointment today and waiting for over an hour(still waiting ) but meant I managed to wiz through this again.

I encourage all ladies to read The Hypnobirthing Book at least twice before their birth and their partners at least once.

On my third baby and not sure how many times I’ve read this now but have to practice what I teach right ? Plus it all goes into the subconscious mind and jogs parts of my memory.

An easy, yet comprehensive logical read that’ll make you think -“why don’t all parents-to-be get told to read this.”

Peekaboo on Sunday

Your baby’s head is not too big.
At birth, the bony plates of your baby’s skull are not fused.
This isn’t by accident.
Just as your pelvis will expand by up to 30% to accommodate your baby, your baby’s skull will mold to the shape of your birth canal.
It’s almost as if, after growing a human, nature wants it to be born and thrive.
Unless you have had a disfiguring bone disease like Rickets, or serious pelvic fractures, your baby is unlikely to have trouble emerging - as long as you’re given enough time and get into the right positions (not constantly flat on your back).
And no, there is no way to determine how “big” your baby’s head will be or how “small” your pelvis will be during birth. It’s an unbelievably common scare tactic, but don’t fall for it.
Were you told that your baby’s head was too big?

AIMS is campaigning for all Trusts in England to lift their restrictions on partners/supporters attending antenatal scans and appointments, in line with the guidance from NHS England.

To help create media interest we are seeking ‘case studies’. If you have been affected by the restrictions and would be happy to have the details of your experience shared publicly, please get in touch with campaigns@aims.org.uk.

You would need to be willing to have your name, age, occupation and location published in the media, together with a photo.

Starting Sunday with some teaching.

Pre-covid I loved having couples over to teach in person but that’s not the world we live in right now and people are still making and having babies so the show must go on-virtually! I’ve found lessons are still as intimate and it’s great for couples to relax in their own environment for scripts.

I’ll be teaching until mid November so if you want to get some lessons in before the new year email Hypnobirthingmadrid@gmail.com

PS Had to switch to sitting on my ball halfway through teaching today as chairs are no longer my friend at

Though I’ve a few weeks to go I’ve been trying so spend less time doing “work things” as summer was a little hectic, and enjoy family time and sorting out the house so it’s as easy as poss to transfer from two kids to three 🤪

Maybe it was hormones or maybe it’s just life as a parents but last night I was having a bit of a wobble and talking with my husband about giving enough to my two existing ninos. The Universe must have been listening as I then saw this post from right afterwards. It made me feel a lot better...I hope it will for some of you too.

And then it hits - the exhaustion from giving everything within you. I see it so often after birth. And then as a parent, I STILL feel it myself...again and again. Moments where I want to smile more, laugh more, embrace every single moment...and yet I'm just tired and exhausted. I feel like I have nothing else to give.

But yet, as in this moment, we are still enough. Our babies and children can still feel the safety and warmth of our presence, our arms. They can sense our hearts beating for them...even though we might be too tired to articulate it.

I know it can sometimes feel like we're failing, especially during this most challenging year, but you're not. You're holding and guiding your children through the very real pain of this world. And it's work. It's real labor. So just know your children will look back on this time and marvel at your strength and be eternally grateful for your love.

The point in pregnancy where your bottom and your belly start to look a little similar 😄

Nesting instincts:they are kicking in full force at the moment, sooner than my previous pregnancies but I think that’s mother’s intuition as you know you have less time with two children around already, better to get it all done a bit earlier.

80% of the way through with this baby and I’ve a feeling it’ll all go rather quickly from here out with the countdown to Halloween and Christmas.

Can’t wait to meet this boy or girl !
