Ye Ethiopia Cancer Association

Ye Ethiopia Cancer Association The Ethiopian Cancer Association (ECA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to averting cancer and cancer related problems in Ethiopia.

It was established in December 2002 by highly committed health professionals who clearly understood the problem and had been working with cancer patients in the country and abroad, and by cancer patients in Ethiopia whose lives were forever changed by the disease. Currently, the association has more than 200 members and welcomes new members year-round. Anyone above the age of 18, who is willing to contribute time and effort to any goal they feel they can help the organization accomplish is welcome. The organization is currently planning to implement a national project on cancer education, awareness, and advocacy, as well as multiple initiatives involving cancer prevention, control and treatment.

While there is only one center for providing cancer treatment in Ethiopia, the number of cases is increasing. According to clinical records from the Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital's Radiotherapy Center, 120,500 cases of cancer occur per year.
