OFWE and FSC Launch Major Forest Certification Initiative at Jimma

On March 10, 2026, the Oromia Forest and Wildlife Enterprise (OFWE) took a significant step toward global sustainability by launching a specialized workshop in Jimma. In collaboration with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the event focused on "Forest Management Certification" for its Southwest branches, bringing together leaders to modernize how Oromia’s natural resources are managed and marketed.
A key highlight of the session was the unveiling of a new standardized marketing logo. This symbol serves as a professional seal of approval, identifying products that come from certified, sustainably managed forests. This means Higher Market Credibility, Stakeholder Trust and Economic Growth: Opening doors to new, premium global markets.
The workshop dived deep into the FSC’s core principles, centered on the mission of “Forests for All Forever.” The goal is to ensure that forest management is not just productive, but also:Economically Viable: Building a profitable and stable industry,Socially Beneficial: Respecting the rights of workers and local communities and Environmentally Sound:Protecting biodiversity and forest health.

Experts, emphasized that Oromia’s forests are vital "carbon sinks" that play a crucial role in the global fight against climate change. The discussions also explored innovative ways to maximize forest value, such as: Developing eco-tourism opportunities. Verifying ecosystem services to attract international conservation funding and Closing financial gaps through stronger international partnerships.
