A Triumph in Jaw Surgery: Successful removal of a mass of 16×13×14cm size.
Today, We are proud to share a remarkable story of Maxillofacial surgical success at Hawasa Comprehensive specialised Hospital.
OMFS team who was led by Dr. Chala Ararsa (Asst Prof in OMFs), has performed a complex surgery on a patient diagnosed with a large ameloblastoma of the jaw, measuring an impressive 16×13 ×14cm. The largest Ameloblastoma recored in literature was by Michael et.lwith the size of 24×19×15cm.
This benign but aggressive tumor posed significant challenges due to its size and location, impacting the patient’s appearance, ability to eat, and quality of life.
The patient initially presented with noticeable swelling and discomfort in the jaw, and further imaging confirmed the presence of this substantial tumor.
Given the size and proximity to critical structures, such as teeth and nerves, the surgery required careful planning and precise ex*****on to remove the tumor completely while preserving as much function and appearance as possible.
After a meticulous surgical procedure, our team successfully removed the entire tumor. The patient’s recovery has been smooth, with restoration of jaw function and a significant improvement in quality of life.
The outcome represents a major achievement for both the patient and our surgical team, showcasing our hospital's capability in managing even the most complex maxillofacial cases.
This success is a testament to the advancements in surgical techniques, the dedication of our multidisciplinary team.
