We would like to thank the Mekelle American Corner for the invitation to our engaging and interactive World Mental Health Day awareness session. We are grateful to Dr. Samson Negasi and Samuel Gebremariam from AMC for their wonderful contributions as speakers. Special thanks to Dr. Abenezer for skillfully moderating the session and to Shishay Equal for coordinating with AMC.

The discussions were powerful, heartfelt, and deeply relevant, reminding us of the urgent need to prioritize mental well-being and trauma healing in Tigray.

As part of our association's mission, we plan to engage and partner more with AMC, focusing on our thematic area of supporting community engagement and professional development and training.

We also extend our thanks to Frehiwot from UNICEF YouReport for their continued support . Together, we are building awareness, resilience, and hope—one conversation at a time. 💚

Tigray Medical Association has attended the World Mental Health Day Workshop organized by TRHB , Mekelle TWG in collaboration with SOS children's village on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Zemarias Hotel, Mekelle.
This year’s theme, “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” calls attention to the invisible toll of crises — from natural disasters to conflict zone.
One in five people affected by emergencies may develop serious mental health conditions, yet services are often disrupted or inaccessible. We must advocate for systems that prioritize psychological first aid, tele-mental health, and community-based care — especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and displaced individuals.

Let’s use today to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and push for inclusive, resilient mental health services that reach people when they need it most. Because healing minds is just as vital as rebuilding lives.

Dr. Samson Negasi, one of our executive board members responsible for member affairs, participated in the 2nd African Union Climate Summit, where environmental health concerns were a vital agenda item. The meeting focused on innovative solutions to improve environmental health, including sustainable agricultural practices and the adoption of clean energy. It highlighted the importance of community involvement in climate action planning, called for stronger policies prioritizing environmental health, and emphasized the need for ongoing research and data collection to address the health impacts of climate change effectively.
