Today was the semi-final of the program, where entrepreneurs pitched their businesses. Fadumo made it through to the final and tomorrow the winner of the six remaining entrepreneurs will be decided. Fingers crossed for Fadumo! 👍👍

Fadumo's comment: "Making it to the final is a testament to determination and hard work. Let's continue to support and encourage each other on our journey!" 🌟

Today is International Nurses' Day, so good wishes to all nurses! 🎈🎉

The theme of this year's International Council of Nurses campaign is "Our Nurses, Our Future", addressing the healthcare sector's challenges. The campaign puts nurses in the spotlight and encourages people to envision a better future for the industry. The nursing sector needs to learn from the pandemic and put these lessons into practice 😷

The Day is celebrated every year on the 12th of May, Florence Nightingale's birthday, since 1974. Nightingale was a 19th-century English nurse and pioneer of statistics.

She distinguished herself in the Crimean War by leading a team of volunteer nurses. She later used statistics to show how many more lives were saved by the professional nursing care she led during the war 🥼

Nightingale's vision of human physical and mental health was ahead of its time. Many were inspired to take up nursing because of her example and reputation 🫡

Thank you to all nurses, you do important work! ❤️

Nursing is not always valued in society because it is difficult to measure care in monetary terms. The nursing sector is female-dominated, which is also a part of the reason for the lack of appreciation. This lack of appreciation was particularly evident during the Covid-19 pandemic when nurses were overworked.

However, effective nursing makes a huge contribution to society in terms of public health and the economy. Without good nursing, the other functions of society do not run efficiently either. Healthy people help the economy.

One solution to the shortage of nurses in Finland is to have nurses who are less fluent in Finnish. But they are not recruited and supported well enough, contrary to what Hoiwa is trying to do. The best way to learn a language is as part of a working community. Hoiwa also aims to offer good pay for nurses and to be on their side.

Everyone wants good nursing, but in pay negotiations, for example, actions speak louder than words. What are your thoughts on the subject? How could the nursing sector be better valued? Comment below ⬇️

The gig work Hoiwa offers in the healthcare sector has many advantages for employees 👍 Here are three of them:

🕚 Gig work allows nurses to continue working in the healthcare sector even if traditional work isn’t fit for the employee's goals or life situation.

📚 Gig work offers career changers a low threshold way to return to the healthcare sector without a long-term commitment. This way, a career changer can for example study a new profession while working in healthcare on the side.

🏥 With gig work, professionals can try out new work tasks in healthcare that suit their education.

What advantages or challenges have you experienced in gig work? Comment below ⬇️ ✨

👩‍⚕️ 💭 Favorite memories from healthcare: Fadumo, CEO of Hoiwa, has great memories of working at the health center.

🏥 Working at the health center was really versatile; people came from all ages and Fadumo did, for example, emergency work, office work, and non-urgent reception. No day was quite the same working at the health station. She learned a lot there and her pressure tolerance increased. Fadumo also found the work very meaningful.

4️⃣ 🫶 Here are four tips for personal well-being by Hoiwa’s team. Taking care of your well-being is very important nowadays in this hectic world. Here are the tips:

1. Eat, sleep, and move enough 💤
Fulfilling basic needs is important for one’s well-being. If you’re constantly hungry or you’re not getting enough sleep, your life gets more difficult. You should also eat healthy food.

2. Do things that bring you joy 😊
If your life is only about working hard, the body and mind will need recovery too. Doing things that are meaningful to you is exactly that.

3. Have a positive mindset 👍
Thoughts people are having affect them a lot. When you think about the positive angles of stuff, it betters your well-being.

4. Set boundaries 🛑
Knowing your personal boundaries and holding onto them betters your well-being. When you hold up to your boundaries, your life will start looking more like you.

📰 Helsingin Sanomat Visio published a comprehensive article about Hoiwa last weekend! The article goes through Hoiwa’s and its founder Faduma Ali’s inspiring story. In the article Fadumo brings up three strengths of Hoiwa in the healthcare sector:

Appreciation 👩‍⚕️
“The nurses must get the feeling, that Hoiwa is on their side. They can tell us with a low threshold about a problem in the field, and then we arrive and discuss it with the customer. We want to be supporting the nurse. And I get good feedback from that.” Fadumo tells.

Salaries 💳
The salary is always better compared to permanent employees in the same unit. “Many nurses are living from paycheck to paycheck and we want to help with that”, Fadomo says.

Culture 👍
According to Fadumo, nurses want to get spoken feedback and the feeling that they belong somewhere. Everyone should be spoken to by name, everyone should be met as a person and everyone should be familiarized with others.
