My Kana Fiji

My Kana Fiji My Kana is a mobile application that promotes healthy eating habits and home gardening. My Kana is an app that aims to promote healthy eating habits.

Designed and developed in Fiji for the people of Fiji, it allows users to record and monitor what they eat. My Kana shows whether your meals are balanced and healthy. Unlike other healthy eating apps that mainly target western foods and require users to input weights of the food they consume, the My Kana app takes a different approach to help users estimate the food portions. In addition to weight and standard measures, My Kana offers users the option of estimating their food portions using hand measures. At the core of the app is the concept of the Healthy Plate, and what users eat is compared against the healthy plate. My Kana comes with a comprehensive list of foods available in Fiji, including local Fiji foods and imported foods. This allows My Kana to be used without the need for an Internet connection. This app is the result of the collaborative work between The Centre for the Flexible Learning at The University of the South Pacific (USP) and National Food and Nutrition Centre (NFNC), Fiji. The app development was conducted by the USP Team guided by expert nutritional advice from the NFNC Team.

MY KANA TONGA APP LAUNCH

The My Kana Tonga App will be launched by the Ministry of Health on the 16th of February at Lopaukamea Hall, USP Tonga Campus.

The Centre for Flexible Learning (CFL) at the University of the South Pacific partnered with the National Food and Nutrition Centre of the Ministry for Health and Medical Services (Fiji) to develop the My Kana application in 2016.
