🚨 Dengue Fever Outbreak Alert 🚨
There has been an outbreak of dengue fever throughout Fiji, with several students in the Western Division affected. This is a serious health concern, and we urge everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
We urge residents of Nasinu and surrounding areas, please be vigilant and follow these preventive measures:
Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly check and empty containers, flower pots, and any other items that can collect water.
Use Mosquito Repellent: Apply insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing. Use products containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Wear Protective Clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and shoes to reduce mosquito bites.
Install Screens: Ensure windows and doors have screens to keep mosquitoes out. Use mosquito nets if necessary.
Keep Your Environment Clean: Dispose of garbage properly and keep your surroundings clean to prevent mosquito breeding sites3.
Seek Medical Attention: If you or your family members experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, or rash, seek medical attention immediately.
The council is here to assist and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Let's work together to combat this outbreak and keep our community safe. Stay informed and take action to prevent the spread of dengue fever.
