Throwback to our AMSA welcoming service 🙏
In the medical field as we step out of the lecture hall and into the wards. Surrounded by the beeping of monitors📟 and the quiet strength of patients fighting to get well, the lessons hit differently. As we moved from bed to bed, learning to identify the pathologies behind the symptoms, the verse from Mathew 13:28 kept echoing in my mind: 'An enemy has done this.'
It’s one thing to read about diseases in a textbook📚; it’s another to see the tears in a patient's eyes, to feel the weight of a terminal diagnosis in the room. We are confronted daily with the reality that sickness, pain, and suffering aren't just biological processes, they are the fingerprints of an enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.
And yet, that realization doesn't lead us to despair. In fact, it clarifies our mission✨. We are encouraged, even when the workload is heavy and the outcomes are uncertain, to emulate Christ✝️. We strive to be His hands👐 as we examine patients, His feet👣 as we walk the long corridors to check on the lonely, and His eyes 👀 as we look past the vital signs to see the scared human being in front of us. In a world broken⛓️💥 by an enemy, we are called to be vessels of grace and hope.
